Humans Vs Machines Defining Our Digital Future. Gerd Leonhard Keynote At Sakharov Forum '21

Humans Vs Machines Defining Our Digital Future. Gerd Leonhard Keynote At Sakharov Forum '21

This is the audio version of the complete recording of my keynote at the INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC FUTUROLOGICAL FORUM (named after the Futurist SAKHAROV) June 4, 2021 in St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod

TOPIC: Humans and Machines. The Next 10 Years
We are at a fork in the road: the next 10 years will decide on whether our future is 'utopia' (protopia) or oblivion (see Buckminster Fuller). We will have all the tools (science and technology) - but will we have the TELOS (the wisdom). We must take a wider view and go beyond GDP towards people, planet, purpose and prosperity.

Future Of Social Media Futurist Gerd Leonhard's Keynote NEC Forum'21 PT

Future Of Social Media Futurist Gerd Leonhard's Keynote NEC Forum'21 PT

How could social media become 'human' again? How can we stop the disinformation, dehumanisation and dataism that has resulted from social media's algorithmic obsessions? I foresee that the EXTERNALTIES i.e. the consequences of unmitigated growth of exponential digital technologies will become just as big as the consequences of climate change. In fact, today, the social media industry already has quite a few parallels to the oil, gas and coal business: while private make huge profits from extracting the 'oil' (i.e. user data), the external damage is left to society and governments to fix. This needs to change! In this keynote I make some precise suggestions as to how that could happen.

The more we connect the more we must protect what makes us human.
Technology is not what we seek, but how we seek.
Algorithms know the value of everything but the feeling of nothing.
Too much of a good thing can be a very bad thing (read more about that at https://www.futuristgerd.com/toomuchtech)

Audio Version of Gerd's Keynote on Why ethics is existential. Futurist Gerd Leonhard

Audio Version of Gerd's Keynote on Why ethics is existential. Futurist Gerd Leonhard

A recent keynote for https://www.unashamedlyethical.com/ on why ETHICS are so important to our future. Technology is exponential but humans are not. Technology is not what we seek but HOW we seek. Societies are driven by their science and technology but defined by their humanity. "Technology can do great things, but it does not WANT to do great things - it doesn't want anything" (Tim Cook).

Forktalks #1 event - The Fork in the Road Project

Forktalks #1 event - The Fork in the Road Project

This is the audio recording of the inaugural Fork Talk event that took place May 13th 2021.

The Fork In The Road Project is named after Buckminster Fuller and was initiated in early 2021 by futurists David Houle, Glen Hiemstra and Gerd Leonhard. The Fork Project is aiming to start a global narrative that brings 4 existential issues (climate change, capitalism, exponential technological change and human enhancement) into a sharper and wider public focus, and ultimately catalyses real action by leaders around the world.

This inaugural, free FORK-TALK event featured the 3 initiators as hosts, and 4 world-renowned keynote speakers presenting a short talk each, followed by Q&A:

Brenda Cooper on the Role of Science Fiction as a Visionary Tool
David Houle on Facing the Climate Crisis
Bronwyn Williams on Re-Writing the Social Contract
Philip Kotler on Is World Capitalism Ready for Nordic Capitalism?

How To Nurture A Future Mindset Virtual Keynote By Futurist Gerd Leonhard #education #futureofwork

How To Nurture A Future Mindset Virtual Keynote By Futurist Gerd Leonhard #education #futureofwork

This is the complete recording of my keynote at the 1st Mawhiba Global Conference on Giftedness and Creativity Nov 8 2020, see https://www.mawhiba.org/en/GCGC/Pages... for details.

Technology is exponential, but humans are not.
Whatever is easy for a computer is hard for a computer, and vice versa.
The more we connect the more we must protect what makes us human.
Technology is not what we seek but how we seek.
The biggest danger, today, is not the machines will take over, but that we become too much like them.

My book "Technology vs Humanity" is now available as audio and in different languages (you can stream the first chapters for free).

What is the #ForkInTheRoadProject?Gerd Leonhard's Presentation at Sarasota Institute

My presentation at today's event in Sarasota FL (virtually of course).
The Fork In The Road Project is named after Buckminster Fuller and has been initiated in 2021 by futurists David Houle, Glen Hiemstra and Gerd Leonhard. We are aiming to start a global narrative that brings 4 existential issues (climate change, capitalism, exponential technological change and human enhancement) into a sharper and wider public focus, and ultimately catalyses real action by leaders around the world.

The #forkintheroadproject is a global initiative to elevate awareness and create urgency around the major issues confronting humanity this decade. Three futurists- one of whom is David Houle, a co-founder and managing director of the Institute- have initiated this project this year.
