BBR #151: Busting Myths of Mindfulness and Meditation: A Talk with Addie Dihelster

Brain-Body Resilience

Send us a text

Today I welcomed the insightful Addie Dihelster, a seasoned mindfulness meditation teacher, to reflect on our experiences and discuss the powerful impact of mindfulness on our lives. Addie intricately explains the phrase 'attention with intention,' emphasizing the how - not just the what - of paying attention.

Addie and I delved into an enlightening conversation on the roots of mindfulness practices and the potential risks of glossing over them. We emphasized the integration of mindfulness into our daily activities and its effectiveness in handling stress and anxiety. We challenged the popular misconception that all thoughts must be cleared while practicing mindfulness, and instead, advocated for establishing a relationship with those thoughts.

We further explored the intriguing nuances of mindfulness, discussing how perspective and bias affect research information. We touched on the concept of "woo-woo," which stems from colonial perspectives and patriarchal beliefs.
