Why gender inclusion? Pronouns, language, and believing women

In this episode of "Breaking the Binary," Sarah and Arden dive deep into the importance of gender diversity in the workplace and beyond. Our discussion covers critical topics such as the distinction between sex and gender, and the true meaning of gender diversity—it's more than just including women. We explore the significance of using the correct pronouns and how language plays a powerful role in reinforcing social positions. We'll also discuss practical approaches for fostering a more inclusive environment, including gender-neutral terms for addressing groups, and why it's crucial to treat women and gender-diverse individuals with respect by genuinely listening to their experiences. We challenge the conventional approach of questioning why women aren’t applying to your organisation, instead flipping the narrative to consider what your organisation offers women and gender-diverse people, and why they would want to work for you. We hope you find this episode interesting, we can’t wait to hear your thoughts.  Don’t forget to visit Coded Diversity’s website, LinkedIn, Instagram and Meetup for more information and to show your support. Identity, success and being an expert with Dr Jessica Allen

In this episode of "Breaking the Binary," we delve into identity, success and being an expert with Dr. Jessica Allen. Dr Jessica Allen is currently a Senior Lecturer in Chemical and Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of Newcastle. Her research focuses on developing technology that can use renewable electricity for manufacturing green products from steel and aluminium to carbon and fuels like hydrogen and ammonia. Dr Allen is an engineer, a proud Novocastrian and mum of two (three if you include the dog…) who enjoys mountain biking and tap dancing. We talk about the question asked to kids “what do you want to be when you grow up?”. How building an identity as an adult is often about more than work, having multiple careers and focusing our energy on what bring us value and what problems we want to solve in the world.  We hope you find this episode interesting, we can’t wait to hear your thoughts.  Don’t forget to visit Coded Diversity’s website, LinkedIn, Instagram and Meetup for more information and to show your support.
