I am delighted to share this conversation with the ever-fabulous, theatrical, camp and incredibly down-to-earth entertainer, Brendy Ford.
Brendy kick-ball-changed his performing career at the age of 21 training as a dancer at The Space Arts & Dance Centre. Since completion his performing career entered many different avenues as he opened himself up to his creative roots. His career has included and continues to include performing, writing and producing musical theatre and cabaret, comedy and improvisation, co-hosting a successful Melbourne queer podcast, hosting radio, MC-ing, choreographing weddings, hens parties, and his successful Broadway Beats class in Collingwood.
Outside of the creative world Brendy has worked as a surgical nurse, a professional & sort after personal assistant, national customer service manager in photography, and a successful event manager.
He is heavily involved in the LGBTIQA+ community as he steers his career and passions to focus around diversity and inclusion.
In this episode we speak about:
- Balancing work and creativity, creating stability around your creative projects
- How to move out of your comfort zone and bring a theatre show to life
- Managing your finances and being an artist
- How to own and embrace all parts of yourself on the musical theatre stage
- Brendy's journey of self discovery as a gay man, having grown up in a conservative community
- How to let go of wearing masks, and being your true self
- The importance of therapy and taking care of your mental health
- Letting go of your identity as a "struggling artist"
- How to produce, write and create your own shows
