The Push And Pull Of Progress

This week Amanda and Anita unpack a confronting speech made at a graduation ceremony that lit up the internet because of its brazen misogyny. They share their personal reactions to the video, the grammatically incorrect rants in the comments section defending the speaker, and the schoolteacher who proved that sometimes a bit of tasteful ridicule can provide a small joy when tensions are running high in debates such as these. Plus, they share two large glimmers from their week!

Looking Upstream To Address Violence Against Women

Looking Upstream To Address Violence Against Women

The recent stabbings that occurred at Bondi Junction have sparked a conversation about the culture of violence against women in Australia. In this episode, Amanda and Anita look upstream at the systemic failures that are perpetuating extreme rates of violence against women. Anita's professional experience of working with perpetrators of violence brings much needed, and extremely eye-opening nuance to the subject. Together, they explore what needs to happen to create effective prevention and lasting change. Shifting the focus away from punishment and towards treatment might feel challenging, but it is key.

Two impressive women with wonderful perspectives and insight.

Love the podcast A squared! Just listened to the ‘Upstream’ episode and while it’s truly awful to keep hearing about the terrible violence perpetrated against women, it was heartening to hear Anita’s deep insights into what can and should be done to support change. You’re both such impressive women with a beautiful friendship. Thank you for sharing some of that with us. I also loved the glimmer about Logan - I could picture the scene and can understand how Anita felt that way - delightful! I also shared with a colleague that working with her is my ongoing ‘glimmer’ as it’s such a positive, lovely sentiment. Thanks, gals!

Feedback on funeral episode

Amanda asked for feedback regarding funerals. Please listen to So, I quit my day job. Cathrine Mahoney interviewing Bill Edgar aka The Coffin Confessor, how he carries out deeds for the dead. It is AMAZING, funny, you’ll have audible intake of breath.
