Merging Academia, Wild Sovereignty & Somatic Dance with Brittany Jane Mojo Mecca

    • Society & Culture

In this conversation i'm communing with Brittany Jane - a Somatic Ecologist, Dancer and Accredited 'Wayapa' Practitioner, whose work aims to merge the embodiment and ecology.

Brittany has over 15 years of experience in dance and embodiment complemented by 7 years as a sustainability educator where she delivered bachelor and post-graduate tertiary courses for hundreds of students in over 8 countries. She holds a Master of Environment in Somatic Ecology where her thesis explored the use of somatic dance in connecting and communicating with the natural world. She is currently completing her Doctorate.

Her research aimed to address the root cause of today’s overwhelming ecological challenges, that being human’s disconnection and disembodiment from nature.

She co-founded an organisation called 'Wildsong', which offers deep nature connection programs for children and adults that serve as a catalyst for connecting people to their wild self and the ecological communities they belong to. She also offers women's only re-wilding immersions named 'Sovereignty'.

We explore:
- The much needed fusion of the academic and somatic worlds for impact and recognition
- The power of moving from the mind to the body, and 'bringing the body on board' so we can live whole lives rich in deeply felt experiences
- De-coding and exploring our own ancestral lineages as a way of empowering ourselves and lessening the need to grasp at or appropriate Indigenous cultures that are not our own as a result of lack, disconnection or trauma
- Key practices for micro-dosing somatic nature connection in your life and moving emotions through your body
- Play as a business ally
+ so much more!
