S3_E40 Sexually Transmitted Debt; Love Lies and Money

Today we’re diving into a different kind of STD… one that spreads through love, trust, and silence: sexually transmitted debt. This can look like a romance scam, on the other hand it can also look like the thing we just do in a relationship.  Today I want to bust the money myth that we need to go along with what our significant other is doing in their business, that its somehow our responsibility to support our new partner and how to spot the signs that an STD might be coming your way...I also want to talk about how to support a friend experiencing an STD. Its something I have done wrong but I want to share the learning from that mistake. Silence is expensive. Talking about money can save you thousands of dollars and a whole lot of heartache. In this episode: Melanie’s story – how one woman’s $40,000 loan for her dream man turned into five years of debt and heartbreak. The emotional manipulation playbook – love bombing, gaslighting, guilt trips, and why smart women fall for these traps. The psychology of money & love – how our brains are wired to trust, to hope, and how spotting it can help us change. Why we ignore red flags – even when our friends are shouting at us about it How to protect yourself – from keeping your own bank account, to spotting red flags, to setting boundaries that keep you and your money safe. Key takeaway: Being vulnerable with money doesn’t mean you’re weak  it means you’re human. The solution isn’t to hide all alone with your shame. You can build skills, safety nets, and support systems. Protecting your assets is smart. Saying no is really hard but you are not alone. .
