In this episode of the Not-Quite Alcoholics podcast I’m joined by Cam Cooney.

Cam came to meditation after an emotional meltdown at work led him to google “how to be happy” and found a top ten list where #8 was meditate.

He realised that smoking weed, drinking alcohol and suppressing his emotions wasn’t working so set about exploring meditation.

After dabbling with many different techniques and apps and study all over the world, Cam became a Vedic Meditation teacher in 2019 and teaches from his Glasgow studio and online.

A wake-up call that couldn’t be ignored – with Janet Gourand

A wake-up call that couldn’t be ignored – with Janet Gourand

In this episode, I’m joined by Janet Gourand, the founder of Tribe Sober, a community of people changing their relationship with alcohol.

Janet is originally from London but has been living in Cape Town for the last 20 years. When she decided to stop drinking alcohol she could find very little support in South Africa and didn’t want to go down the rehab/AA route, so after getting sober her own way, she decided to use background in training and development to develop a program of her own.

Janet talks about how it took her three wake-up calls and many years before she finally accepted that life would be better without alcohol and quit.

Making friends with the discomfort – with Claire Robbie

Making friends with the discomfort – with Claire Robbie

In this episode, I'm joined by my friend Claire Robbie to talk about how meditation is core to her sobriety and how she uses it to help others.

Claire is a meditation and yoga teacher based in New Zealand who is the founder of The School of Modern Meditation where she teaches Awareness Insight Meditation.

Claire also runs The Reset Program, a 90-day program that helps people reset their relationship with alcohol and is the founder of No Beer Who Cares events.

Claire had a key part to play in my journey to quitting alcohol after we met on a meditation retreat in Mexico in 2017.

Coming out as a non-drinker – with Andrew Addie

Coming out as a non-drinker – with Andrew Addie

This week I’m joined by Andrew Addie, CEO of Untoxicated, an organisation that describes itself as “a thriving tribe of around 9,000 sober and sober curious people passionate about having a laugh, meeting new mates and smashing social norms along the way”.

Before Andrew quit drinking, he had been a binge drinker who found himself drinking everyday when he reached his thirties.

Andrew compares coming out as a non drinker to when he came out as gay and shares the tips and strategies that helped him become a non-drinker two and a half years ago.

    Listen to his story.

Stealth or health: To tell or not to tell – with Neradine Tisaj

Stealth or health: To tell or not to tell – with Neradine Tisaj

This week I’m joined by Neradine Tisaj, a media and brand consultant, meditation teacher, mentor, cancer warrior and writer.

When she was diagnosed with cancer, Neradine vowed to quit alcohol completely for three years to help her recovery.

Little did she know her friends and family would often be so unhelpful that she would find it easier to pretend she was drinking than reveal she wasn’t.

In this episode, she shares many of the tips and tricks she learned and answers the question of whether it’s best to tell people you’re quitting for health reasons or instead opt for an easier stealth approach.

Calling time on the maelstrom of weariness – with Jamie East

Calling time on the maelstrom of weariness – with Jamie East

This week on the Not-Quite Alcoholics podcast I’m joined by my old friend and former boss, the legendary Jamie East, aka Mr Holy Moly.

We reminisce over old boozy times like when I lost the “sacred” Holy Moly glove puppet while drunk on assignment at the MTV Europe Music Awards, bought a replacement and denied the whole thing.

But more importantly, Jamie talks about his experience of quitting alcohol four years ago and how it took a couple of years to come round to the fact that he was an alcoholic, a term he now wears with pride.
