The Game within the Game...
Over 95% of sport is played without the ball or implement and over 90% of our day is spent outside of training... The game within the game is about who you are, how you spend your time, what standards do you live by when you DON'T have the ball. This is about expanding mind, body and life systems for a lifetime of meaningful and fulfilling performance. You are the manager, coach and team captain within your own internal game.
The OFFBALL movement and conversation is an intentional dive into the human being within high performance. The goal is to extract fun stories, key learnings and big thinking ideas from world class performers, coaches and minds in sport so listeners can expand their own game within their respective game.
Hosted by Martin Reader (2012 Olympian, Trainer and Coach) this podcast is designed to be inclusive, insightful and inspiring for everybody. Martin intends to host meaningful conversations that simulate elders sharing wisdom by the fire.

S3 EP006
In this episode I sit live with Rich up in his home after we ran a breathing, pool training and ice exposure event in Noosa, Australia. Rich and I have been chatting for a year after I found him exploring and sharing his breath and CO2 training. Rich is a calm cool and collected individual who is meticulous with his words and actions. He is someone who lives it day in day out for himself and is incredibly conscious of choices he is making about his life, his family and his environment.
This episode is a deep dive into creating a life you love, owning your stress response and what we can learn from sharing and coaching no matter how far along you are on your journey.
You can find Rich on Instagram here - @richjburrows and keep your eyes peeled as he runs more breath and stress training workshops along the eastern coast of Australia.
As always thank you again for your time. Give us a share on instagram - @OFFBALLathlete & @martinjreader and please leave a review on Itunes and send a screen shot of this conversation to a friend who would gain from hearing Rich's wisdom.

S3E4 - "You are EVERYTHING within and without sport" with Vince Luciani
My dear friend and fellow coach Vince Luciani is a leader in the conversation around transcending athlete identity. This conversation is meant to provoke thought and support athletes, coaches and parents to think bigger for themselves and those around them. Stay with it until the end as we share how the passing of our respective fathers has made a profound impact our lives.
You are more than an athlete. We have been conditioned to love ourselves conditionally as a result of stats and outcomes of sport yet we are human beings that are far more that our physical and athletic output. This is an incredibly timely and relevant conversation about defining yourself BEFORE you enter the field of play. This is about you validating yourself as a human being before you step into your role as an athlete, coach or parent.
Vince is a world class coach who guides performers to understand who they are beyond the game.

S1E2 - Living your Truth with 2016 Olympian TJ Sanders
This conversation goes deep with Team Canada Indoor Men's Volleyball setter - TJ Sanders.
TJ lets us into his journey as he delves into his original vision and the series of choices he took to get there. He has made counterculture decisions other's may have questioned, however, he committed to his truth and lived in alignment with what he believed would take him to the top. His decisions paid off as he was an integral part of Team Canada breaking into the FIVB Top 10 in the World and 5th place at the Olympics. This along with learnings on how to be a better teammate, staying on the path amidst a devastating injury and ultimately transcending outcome by finding meaning in the mastery of creatively expressing himself through his craft. This is a wonderful conversation with an athlete who is willing to be vulnerable and share from the heart. Enjoy!
