At 11 weeks, you and your partner are still fairly new to this whole pregnancy thing. And it can take some adjusting. (You won’t be the only one with major mood swings over these next few months.) If you’re in a relationship, you might be wondering how having a baby will impact your partnership: Will it make it stronger? Will it be a test of your commitment? The truth is, probably both. A strong, healthy relationship will be more important than ever once a new human being comes along, but it certainly won’t always come easy.

It’s Week 13 and, for many of you, the fog of the first trimester is finally lifting: You’re probably starting to feel like your old self again, minus the constant nausea and irksome food aversions. But out with the old and in with the new: With the start of the second trimester often comes extreme hunger. And sometimes for the worst (thanks but no thanks pregnancy acne). In today’s TMI episode, we focus on your changing pregnant body.

We need to be less focused on weight

Some really wonderful advice in here but the common discussions about putting on “weight”, with negative undertones (for example having to break the habit of having two breakfasts - why is this a bad habit? Well done you for nourishing your body!) could be quite damaging to some people. I think we have a responsibility to move away from weight stigma, this is particularly relevant during pregnancy.

Out of touch

One of the many podcasts made by a bunch of middle class white ladies. Wreaks of privilege and out of touch assumptions. And, frankly, too much anxiety inducing discussion on diet, food, clothes, body image...the list goes on.

I’m 7 weeks pregnant for the first time and got to about episode for week 15 in this podcast and finally had enough, “I’m not fat, I’m pregnant!”? Shame on you.

Ladies, do not start tracking your macros and micros and do not worry about your weight during pregnancy. If you cannot afford organics that’s also fine! You do not look fat at 16 weeks you look like you just have a normal body! Which comes in many shapes! Do not apologise or feel the need to explain your body!

Big Fail

Started listening to this podcast with high hopes. It’s not positive or uplifting, a bunch of opinionated women giving advice on how things should or shouldn’t be during pregnancy. For example: baby showers should be an all women affair? Really? What about women who’s mothers and grandmothers have died and have only had the strong men in their life left to raise them. I just feel myself constantly eye rolling during their discussions. This won’t serve you. Go and find something positive.
