EP 6//MINIPOD SERIES: YOU'RE DOING THIS & DON'T KNOW IT / MASKING & WHY IT'S PROBLEMATIC
Welcome to my first episode of my series I affectionately call, MiniPod's!
I've designed these episodes to be quick informational/educational episodes to discuss certain ND/ADHD-related topics that are important convos that need to be had.
Today's episode discusses a topic that is a very real issue that all ND's(neurodivergent folks) experience - masking.
According to The Brain Charity* (see Source citation below linked under "Helpful Links"), Masking is "...the act of suppressing or concealing neurodivergent traits in schools and workplace in order to appear neurotypical." The article continues, "(n)eurodivergent people who mask their conditions tend to do this by mimicking or mirroring the behaviors of neurotypical people around them, such as their peers, colleagues or friends."
In this episode I discuss what Masking is, draw examples of how it may appear in your life, and what to do in the moment when you notice that you're masking.
I also bring up the topic of Ableism, and how this form of prejudice is unfair and absurd; how masking leads to burnout, as well as a friendly and necessary reminder that it's not your job to make others feel comfortable when they're around you!
You deserve to exist wholly, unapologetically as yourself, without external, people-pleasing (and frankly stupid) expectations that keep you small and miserable!
-----
Key Moments:
1:24 Introduction to my MiniPod Series!
2:12 Topic: Masking. Defined, explained.
5:54 Why Masking is problematic. This is why you need to de-mask....
6:57 "How do I know when I'm masking?" "How do I stop?" Ask yourself these questions....
8:05 Thank you for listening!

To listen to Part 1 of this series, â LISTEN HERE.â
Note: Please don't use this episode as a diagnosis. Remember, while I am a firm believer in paying attention to your natural instinct/intuition when it comes to understanding what your body needs(when it comes to anything health-related), I still recommend you seek out a doctor for an official diagnosis.
This is based on my own experiences.

Number 2, get distracted all the time.
Number 3, misplacing your belongings frequently.
Number 4, can't get organized.

EP 2// ADHD 101: WHAT IS ADHD? / IF YOU WANT TO UNDERSTAND ADHD YOU NEED TO HEAR THIS
Tell me everything you know about ADHD.
You might bring up how people with ADHD are hyper, bouncing off the walls. Fidgety. Maybe you'd say ADHD makes it hard to focus. Perhaps you'd even say that ADHD people are a little crazy, a little bit eccentric, out to lunch, maybe even not the brightest bulb in shed.
How much do you actually know?
Did you now ADHD includes Executive Dysfunction? (If you're wondering wtf Executive Dysfunction is, that's a great sign! You were meant to find this episode!)
In this episode we'll discuss what Executive Dysfunction is, and how it's fundamentally and inseparably part of the ADHD experience.
I highlight 8 concepts that we Late Fam struggle with on the reg. I include concepts like focus, task initiation, time blindness, and Emotional Dysregulation. This episode is chock full of personal stories of my experiences and struggles with Executive Dysfunction. You just might resonate with a few of them, or all of them!
If you truly want to educate yourself about ADHD, this episode will be the foundation of your knowledge.
Late Fam, get your pen out, your journal out (or if you're like me, open your notes app). And get ready to learnnn. Ready for a total mind f***. And get ready to feel more validated than you possibly ever have before!

If this episode resonated with you, if it helped you or if you learned something new, I'd invite you to please write this podcast a review! The more reviews, the more Late Fam I can help!
