Donna Boylen, 49, was at work when she received an unexpected call from her husband telling her he had Stage Four Cancer.

Once we hit mid-life we're, sadly, more likely to know someone (or at least know of someone) who has received the shocking news of a life-threatening illness.

When Donna Boylen hit forty, she found that the orderly and stable life she'd built for herself and her family was unexpectedly turned upside down as she was forced to relinquish the control on her life that she'd previously taken for granted.

One very ordinary day, Donna's beloved husband phoned her at work to say he'd just been diagnosed with Stage Four Cancer.

From that point on, Donna's orderly life crumbled before her eyes as everything  suddenly became unpredictable and very frightening.

From breaking the news to her children, to living with the uncertainty of not knowing her husband's life expectancy...

    ... this is Donna's story.

Therapist, Kim Holland, 57, jokes that self-aware menopausal women can be a bit like vintage cars: well made; experienced; resilient, tough and very, very beautiful.

Therapist, Kim Holland, 57, jokes that self-aware menopausal women can be a bit like vintage cars: well made; experienced; resilient, tough and very, very beautiful.

Like me, Kim Holland strongly believes that society needs to start looking at women in menopause-and-midlife, differently.
As a Counsellor, Somatic Therapist and Creative Arts Therapist, Kim looks upon menopause as being much more than just a list of negative, physical symptoms.
She sees it as being an exciting transitional time of our lives that can give us opportunity to become strong, empowered and liberated women.
It’s a time when we can give ourselves permission to be released from all the limitations and conditioning we’ve experienced during the first half of our lives.
In her Somatic Therapy work, Kim believes that the traumas of our life-experiences can hold themselves in our body and that, with some work, we can often heal ourselves by letting go of these experiences and playfully embrace the second half of our lives.
    This is Kim’s story.

Kat Ferguson has gone from 'the naughty kid' at school, to being the co-creator of some of the most recognisable works of public art in Western Australia. This is Kat's Story.

Kat Ferguson (48) is a talented abstract artist who co-creates some of the most recognisable works of public art in Western Australia.

It's quite possible that, if you live in WA, you'll be familiar with Kat without evening knowing who she is!

Once known as 'the naughty kid' in her native South East London, Kat now lives with her family in WA where she's had opportunities available to her that have far exceeded even her own creative dreams.

Kat manages her menopausal, suspected-ADHD, highly creative brain whilst strategically running her successful artistry business.

    This is Kat's story.

To view Kat's work, or to get in touch with her, she's on social media as @kat.ferguson.art  or visit her website: www.katferguson.com

Karen Beale has gone from penniless single mother to our next Labor candidate in the 2025 State Elections. This is her story.

Karen Beale has gone from penniless single mother to our next Labor candidate in the 2025 State Elections. This is her story.

Karen Beale (52) has just been nominated as the Labor Candidate to represent Kalamunda and surrounding Perth Hills areas in the 2025 State Elections.

A fourth generation Perth Hills girl, Karen grew up clearly understanding that expectations of her were to get married, have children and look after her family.

So that's how Karen's life began: she married at 20, then again and 25 and again at 44 - all whilst raising three children.

Karen found herself a single mother with a toddler and six month old, with not even enough money to buy nappies.  She's helped her parents through the devastation of losing everything to bushfire - but through all this she appears only to have grown stronger.

I can confidently say that Karen's drive for social justice has seen her taking on roles in the community that have well exceeded those early expectations of her.

    This is Karen's story.

If you'd like to get in touch with Karen, you can email her at: karen.beale@bigpond.com

Peta Fissioli (51) tells how she has more respect for her body now because she's fallen in love with clothes again. This is Peta's story.

Peta Fissioli (51) tells how she has more respect for her body now because she's fallen in love with clothes again. This is Peta's story.

My very first guest on this podcast is Peta Fissioli.

I met Peta a couple of times last year when she joined one of my Discover your Colours workshops, and then shortly afterwards, The Body Shape Rules workshop.

Peta (51) grew up in the Wheatbelt of Western Australia and lived a happy, country life with her parents and older sister.

Although never a slave to fashion, and despite (or maybe because of) being dressed in her sister's hand-me-downs, as a teenager Peta took her fashion influences from Vogue magazine - when she wasn't wearing WHAM! t-shirts!

Sill living in WA's Wheatbelt and now 51, Peta has been married twice, divorced twice, has two grown children, and two jobs which, you'd be forgiven for thinking, surprisingly seem to contradict each other.

Peta chats about her life so far, and how entering into menopause and middle age threw a spanner into her wardrobe.

If you'd like to get in touch with Peta, you can find her on Instagram here: Cornerstone Health Wellness.
