The Gymnastics College Recruiting Guide with Jill Hicks

The SHIFT Show

Today on the podcast I'm very excited to bring you a conversation with Jill Hicks who is a consultant advisor helping athletes and parents with the college recruiting process.

A former elite gymnast and college gymnast at Oregon State University, she moved into the role of student coach which led to a 20-year career as an NCAA college coach and choreographer.

Navigating recruiting can be complex, but in this episode, Jill breaks down the process into easy-to-follow steps along with some essential advice for gymnasts, coaches, and parents.

We discuss:

Why you shouldn’t just focus on one dream school.

The biggest mistake people make when applying.

Parent's role in the recruiting process.

What age should you start having a discussion about recruiting?

The only three skills college recruiters look at.

Advice for coaches helping their athletes in the recruiting process.

What to do if you’ve not heard back from schools.

And…

How to promote yourself and stand out to recruiters on Instagram.
