The History of England
This my re-telling of the story of England, which is a regular, chronological podcast, starting from the end of Roman Britain. There are as many of the great events I can squeeze in, of course, but I also try to keep an eye on how people lived, their language, what was important to them, the forces that shaped their lives and destinies, that sort of thing. I enjoyed this podcast for the most part, except when it became clear that - ho hum - women are judged more harshly for their actions than men by the narrator. Emma of Normandy is frowned upon for being less than motherly while generations of men who slaughtered and raped their way across the countryside are depicted as making choices that are perfectly defensible. Same old same old.
Brilliant!

A wonderful podcast by a gently funny man who knows his onions. Great stuff.
