Episode 323 - Becoming an Overcomer with Matt Chandler

How do we live in hope in light of our suffering? How can live as people who aren't overcome by our pain, but who are overcomers in our pain? For pastor and author, Matt Chandler, his own journey in learning what it means to allow pain to push us towards hope began after a cancer diagnosis in 2009. Through his cancer journey and the surgeries and treatment that followed, he found himself growing in understanding as a pastor in leading others through their own suffering. In his most recent book, The Overcomers: God's Vision for You to Thrive in an Age of Anxiety and Outrage, Matt explores how the book of Revelation shows believers that they were made for this time and are called to be overcomers in whatever challenges they face. In this episode, Davey and Matt talk about how we can be encouraged by those who have gone before us in obedience in challenges and difficulties, why our theology on suffering matters so much, and the importance of looking to the cross in light of our pain. If you've ever struggled with feeling like a victim to the circumstances of your life, this conversation will inspire you to become an overcomer in an age of anxiety and outrage.

Episode 322 - Letting Life In Again After Loss with Aubrey Sampson

Episode 322 - Letting Life In Again After Loss with Aubrey Sampson

How do you keep choosing to truly live after losing one of the closest people in your life? What does it look like to show up when you're feeling the depths of grief? For our Nothing is Wasted podcast co-host, author, pastor and speaker, Aubrey Sampson, learning how to allow life to come in again through the cracks of her pain after losing her best friend, Jenn, was difficult. Finding her way through the grief without having the person she could always process pain with felt impossible. And yet, through it all, Aubrey began to see how even in one of her greatest losses, there were moments where she could keep death from winning by choosing to find joy and life in what was in front of her. It was there that she could begin to see God's redemption in her heartache and fight back against darkness. In this vulnerable conversation, Davey sits down with Aubrey to discuss how redemption often doesn't look like we think it will, how to begin to move forward after losing someone you love, and what to do when God's presence feels more like absence in your pain. If you've ever experienced the loss of a best friend or have wondered how to even begin to live again in grief, this episode will inspire you to keep choosing to show up fully in the one, precious life you've been given.

Episode 321 - Seeing the Miraculous in Adoption and Pain with Joyce Dalrymple

Episode 321 - Seeing the Miraculous in Adoption and Pain with Joyce Dalrymple

How can you believe that God's good work will be done in a story that begins with so much loss and tragedy? Where can you find miracles in pain and life's difficulties? For author, Bible teacher and ministry leader Joyce Dalrymple, opening her eyes to the way the Lord was moving in her own life and through her daughter's adoption required intentional attention. By starting to notice the way God was bringing redemption into their stories, she began to experience a deeper understanding as to the ways in which God is always at work. Seeing her daughter practice empathy birthed out of her own pain was a reminder that even our greatest wounds can become a well of goodness if we allow the transformation to come from the power of the Holy Spirit's work within us. In this insightful conversation, Aubrey sits down with Joyce to discuss how adoption involves so much loss and grief, the importance of learning to rest in your belovedness as a parent, and how to practically help foster and adoptive families. In addition, they touch on how to navigate church hurt with a wider perspective that can help you see the good in what the global church is doing and how that can keep you connected to a community of faith. If you or someone you know is an adoptive or foster family or if you've ever struggled to see the good in your pain, this episode will encourage you that miracles are always beyond the surface of our hurt if we can learn to see them.

    Episode 318 - If I Don't Laugh, I'll Cry with Molly Stillman

    Episode 318 - If I Don't Laugh, I'll Cry with Molly Stillman

How can you find laughter and joy when life is so unbearably difficult? Where is joy when pain and suffering seem to be a never ending part of life? For author and podcaster Molly Stillman, learning to laugh has been balm to her soul in some of her greatest losses. Having lost her mother as a teen, inheriting a sizable inheritance only to lose it shortly after and finding herself in debt and then experiencing pregnancy losses later in life, Molly has walked through too many sorrows to count and yet, she has found a way to laugh through it all. As a trained comedian, Molly has seen the gift of humor when life feels too heavy and has used that gift to bring joy to others in the most difficult moments. Now a homesteader and ministry leader, her life has taken the most unexpected turns and yet she still can find laughter and joy in the midst of it. She writes about her story and life in her new book, If I Don't Laugh, I'll Cry: How Death, Debt, and Comedy Led to a Life of Faith, Farming, and Forgetting What I Came into This Room For. In this conversation, Aubrey sits down with Molly to discuss what it is like to look a mother at such a crucial time in a young girl's life, how to tell your story in safe spaces, and the ways that shame can keep us from bringing to light the truth of what we've been through. If you've ever wonder if it's okay to laugh when so much seems to be going wrong, this episode will encourage you that humor is a gift from God and one He often offers us in the moments of our pain to give us a little push forward towards joy and healing.

Therese 😊 ,

Highly recommend

I came across this podcast and can recommend it for everyone. Everyone ~ in that we all experience suffering in life so it would always be relatable. I love that Davey has come through an unimaginable loss and has used his pain to reach out and share other people’s stories. I lost my husband when I was 38 with 2 teenage boys 12 and 14 - to cancer - he passed within 6 weeks of diagnosis - Jaemie was 45. I know that we will see him again in heaven but there was so much pain and grief to work through. Two years later my parents were killed in a car accident - they were my support and lived nearby so the compounded grief was a lot to work through. I however didn’t stay on the straight and narrow path in my pain but God is so faithful and does walk through the pain with you. I love listening to these real life experiences and God’s hand in all of them. It would have been great for me when I was working through the pain especially in those early years - it was 20 years ago that my husband passed. So can only say what an amazing gift that modern technology has given us in the availability to listen and be encouraged by great podcasts such as this!!

Love this!

I came across the nothing is wasted podcast a couple of months ago and listen to one on my morning walk every day. It’s become part of my daily routine and I always feel so encouraged and challenged by what Is shared. I’m very much on the journey and have found healing and strength in listening to others stories and believe that everything that is nothing is wasted aligns with everything I’m believing God to be doing in my own journey and redemptive story.

So encouraging!

I've been listening to the Nothing is Wasted podcasts while I've been driving across state and I've been wanting to write a review the whole time because I find these podcasts just so so encouraging! There is so much wisdom shared by both hosts and guests and I can feel God growing, strengthening and making me while I listen. God's power through these podcasts is so evident as I have seen the power and impact it has had on my life. God is being glorified in each podcast!! Praise Jesus for what He is doing in the lives impacted by your faithful service!
