From the minds of Joe Swaney from the Thinking Sideways podcast and filmmaker Vincent Caldoni: Mysteries, history, true crime, tales of the unexplained, conspiracies and mirth!

If you are of a certain age you may remember how newspapers worked: the headline told you the news and the front pages gave you the basics of the story but if you wanted the details-the real story the messy stuff, the backstory, you had to flip to the back of the section, past the fluff pieces, past the ads, and whatever else to get to it and if you were like us that was the good stuff-the details that shock.

Excellent podcast in the tradition of "unsolved mysteries"... and it's not all true crime!

If you have fond memories of those old TV shows that used to delve into a different spooky and fascinating "true-life" mystery each week - such as "Unsolved Mysteries" or "In Search Of..." - then you're going to love "The Shocking Details" podcast! The show has several qualities that make it one of the most exceptional unsolved mystery podcasts out there. Firstly, the two hosts, Joe and Vincent, have a natural talent for story-telling, an infectious enthusiasm for armchair-sleuthing, and a genuine warmth in their interactions that makes this show great fun to listen to! Secondly, each episode is delivered from a well-researched and professionally written and recorded script, and their speculations are kept grounded by a welcome note of intelligent analysis and skepticism that many of the more sensationalist podcasts in the unsolved mystery genre conspicuously lack. But what makes this podcast truly exceptional, (in my view) is wonderfully diverse range of true-life mysteries that are covered. About a half to two-thirds of the episodes are in the "true-crime" category of unsolved mysteries - and truth be told, tales about the brutality and tragedy of murder are not to my taste in general. But in the reminder of the episodes, there is truly "something for everyone" including some really fascinating tales about lost treasures; mysterious archeological finds; historical enigmas; nautical and aeronautical mysteries; daring criminal heists; cryptozoology; and cold-war espionage. Not only are these tales diverse, but they are also refreshingly "new" - Joe and Vincent really go out of their way to cover mysteries that you haven't already heard done so many times before in other popular accounts. In a short review like this one, it's really hard to do justice to the sheer depth and wonderful entertainment value of this podcast - go ahead and give it a try, many hours of happy listening await!
