    Relevant and Intercultural Mission

    Relevant and Intercultural Mission

Tina Waldrom talks with Adam Low about Relevant and Intercultural Mission. How do you reach secular society in relevant ways, with an intercultural approach?  How do you see genuine conversions to Christ through the power of His gospel? Adam is the Chairperson of Propel Network and the Lead Pastor from Real Life Christian Church in South of Brisbane.

Propel Network is the formalization of what was a fairly informal gathering of leaders from across the more evangelical parts of the Uniting Church who would gather annually, but also just to encourage one another around common ground. The network is about conversion growth and church planting, with a focus on young leaders and confidence in the gospel of Jesus Christ, to transform lives and communities.

In this episode, Adam talks specifically about being relevant to the culture today. He goes on to discuss the importance of an intercultural, not multicultural viewpoint. Australia has moved on; we live in a post Christian age. When we leave our homes, go to work, go to the shops, or out to play sport, we have to acknowledge that we are missionaries, in a foreign land. When we consider the many cultures, the approach needs to be one of engagement, learning from each other. Not merely, many cultures, living and learning independently. Adam’s insights for effective outreach and evangelism are valuable for all believers.

In this podcast episode, you will discover…

The place of traditional forms of worship in a changing world.
Why you can’t throw everything out to embrace new ideas.

No to Fashion Yes to Jesus

No to Fashion Yes to Jesus

Tina Waldrom talks with Elli Kop who said, No to Fashion Yes to Jesus. Elli, an accomplished professional in the fashion world, felt prompted by God, to move in a new direction. After looking intentionally at her own life and clarifying her abilities, she said yes to bringing the good news to communities. Elli shares the process of discovery and what she is doing today at Collective Hope Community Services, in Western Australia.

Now serving the Lord to bring hope, life and love to communities, Elli is surprised by how much of her fashion world experience, is helpful today. She makes the statement, “you can take the girl out of fashion but you can’t take the fashion out of the girl”. The people skills, the administrative capacity and ‘industry’ know-how are all being used, in new ways to help people discover Christ.

In this episode, Elli challenges believers to consider what they are doing, and what the future holds. In her early fifties, Elli considered and embraced the changes that have moved her into the second half of life. She shares the satisfaction of using her gifts to partner with God on mission. She talks about her gifts and abilities to love those in the community that can be overlooked. Her story is about a woman who was honest and brave enough, to evaluate life from a Kingdom perspective and respond accordingly.

In this podcast episode, you will discover…

Elli’s personal journey from fashion work to community work.
What to do to evaluate your contribution to life and courses to take.
How a personal mission statement can clarify what God is calling you to.
The truth about nothing going to waste in God’s eyes.

    The Gospel and Disability

    The Gospel and Disability

Tina Waldrom talks with Chris Friend about The Gospel and Disability. Chris is the CEO of Collective Hope Community Services in Perth, Western Australia. Chris never imagined that his life, and the life of the churches he leads, would minister in this direction. Seeking to meet the needs of the local community, the heart of Jesus led him, and his team to spaces of disability. He talks openly about the cost of following Christ into this area and the great joy of seeing restoration in Jesus’ name.

Chris Friend is local pastor who has planted a number of churches. He is also the national leader for IPHC Ministries. In 2014, a group of people from his church, Collective Hope, recognised the issue of homelessness in their area. An initial home was set up to minister to the need, and further homes developed from there.  Mental health disabilities became apparent among those they were ministering to and as a response, Collective Hope Disability Services was set up. Today, there is a host of services that are offered, meeting the community needs. CHDS is now an accredited NDIS provider in Perth, bringing hope and life to many.

In this episode, Chris talks about the way Christians should view disability and the role the church can play. He talks passionately about the ‘proclamation’ of the gospel and the ‘doing’ of the gospel. He sees them both as different sides of the one coin. One cannot exist without the other. Chris discusses the need for people to see and experience Christ, not just hear about Him. His contention is that Aussies need to see how Jesus can be the answer to their problem. People need to see how the good news can help them not merely hear about it.

In this podcast episode, you will discover…

How Christians can minister to those with disability.
What the Bible says about the gospel and disability.
How the Collective Hope Disability Services came about.
The story of a local pastor developing an effective community service.
The starting point for churches to develop a community service.
Stories of people finding Christ as they see Him in the lives of believers.
How Isaiah 58 informs discussion on, The Gospel and Disability.
Principles for Kingdom transformation in communities.
Why a long-term approach to discipleship is necessary with community outreach.
What Amos Yong, Henry Nouwen and Tim Keller have to say about the gospel, disability and reaching cities for Christ.
    And so much more…

Change is Needed in Mission & Evangelism

Change is Needed in Mission & Evangelism

Change is Needed in Mission & Evangelism. Tina Waldrom interviews the National Director of Catalyse Change to discuss this topic. Steve Roggero, also the senior minister of Sydenham Baptist Church, is passionate about the church fulfilling the great commission. Steve’s contention is that the modern, western church has made unknowing, small steps in a direction that has not been healthy. Not optimal for the overall mission of God. He talks about the power of discipleship as a way forward.

Steve Roggero was a youth minister for many years, being privileged to see a great number of believers formed into strong disciples of Christ. Trained and equipped for the mission of God. There were certain disciplines and expectations that were a normal part of the believer’s life. The result was people passionate about Jesus and His mission. Following Christ seems to be different now. Steve, who is a respected preacher, teacher, coach and mentor, reflects on why things are different and why Change is Needed in Mission & Evangelism. His wisdom, experience and leadership are helping many church leaders make the necessary changes to see the great commission fulfilled. To see disciples of Christ made.

In this episode, Steve talks about the ingredients that were present when he witnessed the effective ways that people were made into disciples of Christ. He talks about a type of discipleship that naturally articulated into people being about the mission of God. Where did things go wrong? Why did things change? What are the answers to recalibrate? Steve, gives some wise and insightful responses to these questions and more. This is an episode for everyone to engage with, for everyone to wrestle through.

In this podcast episode, you will discover…

The potential reasons of why the church is struggling today.
What happened in the past to make strong disciples of Christ?
Ideas on how to make disciples in 2022 and beyond.
What to do practically to help people become strong in mission.
The role of Catalyse Change in helping churches make disciples.
Ideas on where the church may have gone wrong in evangelism.
How materialism and consumerism has affected discipleship.

Serving Your Community with No Strings Attached

Serving Your Community with No Strings Attached

Tina Waldrom speaks with Charles Crisapulli about Serving Your Community with No Strings Attached. Charles is the senior pastor at Uni Hill Church in Victoria, Australia. He is passionate about the gospel, and feels deeply about local communities experiencing Christ. Charles is a man of integrity, very genuine and extremely down to earth.  These quality characteristics are evident as he champions his church and others, to be about Serving Your Community with No Strings Attached. Serving without the often-wrong agendas.

Charles has been leading UniHill Church for three years.  His wisdom and insights are way beyond his years. He encourages people to love God and to love people. Charles is a wonderful, living example of that. Hope Centre and Hope Tour are two fine initiatives of the church. One is a community service and the other, an offering to local high schools to help encourage teenagers.  Both initiatives demonstrate how a church can be serving their local community with no strings attached. Even through COVID-19, this church managed to innovate so they could continue to serve the local community through tough and challenging times.

In this episode, Charles shares about the importance of serving the local community, without the often-wrong agendas. He talks openly about a wrong focus on results but explains the outcomes he is looking for. He discusses the real need for pastors to see or experience gospel results but redefines what this can look like. He shares stories from the church’s community arm, Hope Centre and also from the programs being run to encourage teenagers in schools, Hope Tour. There are many lessons and insights to be gained in this episode.

In this podcast episode, you will discover…

Why ministering without strings attached is needed?
What an agenda free ministry can look like.
Ideas to love and serve people without agendas.
What to look for in terms of results in outreach.
The need for genuine love to be shown by churches and leaders.
Ideas to serve a local community with a pure agenda.
How a focus on discipleship can facilitate a no strings approach.
The need for correct measures in outreach and evangelism.
How UniHill Church is serving with no agendas through Hope Centre
Why teachers are embracing Hope Tours to encourage their students.

    Kingdom Communities with Andrew Menzies

    Kingdom Communities with Andrew Menzies

Tina Waldrom discusses Kingdom Communities with Andrew Menzies. Andrew, who co-authored the book, Kingdom Communities is all about shining the light of Christ through faith, hope and love. He has led a number of churches, currently serving as the senior minister at Mitcham Baptist in Victoria. Andrew is very practical yet highly educated. He served for many years as a Bible College principal, at the same time reaching his world for Christ. Kingdom Communities is a fascinating discussion and a way forward for the western church.

Andrew Menzies completed his doctoral work at Fuller Theological Seminary. His is a great thinker and a wonderful practitioner. In this interview, he discusses the importance for the church to be focused on seeing people initiated into the Kingdom of God, not initiated into the church. He is however, a large supporter of the local church but understands the limitations of ‘church’ focused language when trying to live out the great commission. He unpacks the need, and his ideas for Kingdom language and consequently, what this means for outreach in the western church.

In this episode, Andrew shares the stories of many, including himself, who are seeing the Kingdom of God come to people’s lives in very natural ways. Stories where faith, hope and love are breaking into people’s lives through the simple, yet powerful method of ‘presence’. Stories of lives being transformed with the gospel in ways that everyday believers can be involved with.

In this podcast episode, you will discover…

Why a Kingdom approach to evangelism is needed.
What Kingdom means in relation to the church.
Ideas to see the gospel come to a local community.
What to do practically to see Jesus revealed to others.
The need for relational communities to heal a broken world.
Ideas on where the church may have gone wrong in evangelism.
How the presence of believers in secular places facilitates the gospel.
The need for the corporate, business focused model of church to change.
How Andrew’s church, through Food is Free, are seeing the Kingdom of God come in the community.
