    11. A Reframe on Rejection.

    11. A Reframe on Rejection.

The experience of rejection comes hand in hand with the creative life... and it hurts.
In this episode I share a recent experience of rejection and how I moved through it. I also discuss the psychology of rejection, why we do everything we can to avoid it and how we might reframe this very human experience as a helpful guide on our path to creative evolution.

    09. Haylee Collins on Honouring the Role of the Creative Mother.

    09. Haylee Collins on Honouring the Role of the Creative Mother.

I am delighted to introduce Haylee Collins to the show—a writer, marketer, mother, publisher, and the creative director of the new magazine publication, HOWL. From conceptualizing campaigns for best-selling and award-winning books, to creating publications credited with changing people’s lives, Haylee is a champion of sharing impactful stories and diverse perspectives.
Her latest venture, HOWL, is a magazine exploring the intersection of creativity and motherhood. A culmination of a career spent observing the artist-mothers she’s long worked alongside, and then stepping into this juxtaposition herself. HOWL is Haylee’s vehicle for posing thought-provoking questions about the inherent value of mothering and creating in a patriarchal and capitalist society.
After two beautiful print editions of HOWL magazine, the publication has been reconceptualized for Issue 03 (which has just been released) and evolved into a digital project spanning four chapters, which will be released quarterly over the course of a year.
What captivates me most about Haylee is her unwavering dedication to her vision, to reshape cultural narratives surrounding motherhood, and making this wisdom accessible to a vast community.
In this week’s episode, we'll illuminate the intricacies woven into the relationship between creativity and motherhood and ponder the question: How can women honor their creative impulse while embracing the mother they aspire to be?
Embarking on the journey of Haylee's creative evolution, we'll discover the inspiration behind bringing HOWL to life and unravel the experiences shaping her quest to address this essential question.
    We’ll also explore -
The push and pull between holding a corporate role while building a creative vision on the side. The changing identity pre and post motherhood.Haylee’s creative awakening after becoming a mother. The complexities of juggling motherhood and creativity. The importance of community and support. The maternal rage that comes with being many selves.Haylee shares what she and her family have gained through making space for her creative expression as a mother. How the name Howl came to be.The reprioritization of values after becoming a mother. We discuss comparison, imposter syndrome, and leading from a place of self-integrity.The importance of boundaries to manage our capacity and channel our energy effectively and healing from burnoutShow Links -

    08. Kirsten Shanks on Pioneering a Plant Based Legacy.

    08. Kirsten Shanks on Pioneering a Plant Based Legacy.

Today, we step into the visionary world of Kirsten Shanks—a naturopath, herbalist, nutritionist, and the founder & creative director behind the beloved brand and healing movement known as Orchard St.
As a pioneer in the realm of true health, Kirsten saw an opportunity to bring a creation into being that the world so deeply needed. She embarked on a bold journey to dissolve the barriers preventing her community from readily accessing nature's healing medicines to support and heal their common health challenges.
What initially started with the seed of an idea to create a seasonal selection organic juice cleanses, has blossomed into an alchemical herbal medicine cabinet and ritual sanctuary, serving as the bridge that has transformed Orchard St into a vessel for healing.
Through four iconic spaces nestled in the heart of Sydney and a meticulously curated product range, Orchard St. invites us to rediscover the transformative power of plant medicine. From potent herbal remedies to conscious lifestyle wares and signature juice cleanse offerings, each creation is a testament to Kirsten's profound connection to the natural world.
Alongside hearing Kirsten’s creation story of bringing Orchard St to life, we also unpack:

     - The “wellness industry” and explore what “wellness” truly means today
     - Kirsten's intuitive approach to evolve her brand
     - How she has cultured a thriving community
     - Adaptogens and how and why we might want to weave them into our days
     - Kirsten shares how she finds fluidity and softness shapeshifting between her roles as a mother, visionary and creative director.

    07. How to Trust in the Pull Toward Reinvention.

I'm riding solo again this week with a stream of consciousness on all things personal and creative reinvention. I share my personal cycles of reinvention and all the sticky and uncomfortable moments that have come along with the new edges of growth... and why it's all worth it.

    I also explore:
    - What reinvention looks like
    - The different stages of the journey and how you might be feeling
    - Why we would want to reinvent ourselves and is it all worth the risk?
    - The difference between the roles of maintainers and creators in our society
    - What's in the way and the core reasons why we fear change and stay stuck
    - The clues and the stepping stones to realising our next identity
    - How we cultivate more trust and take the leaps into our next evolution

    06. How to Live With a Creative Mind: Expert Episode with Dr Julie Crabtree

    06. How to Live With a Creative Mind: Expert Episode with Dr Julie Crabtree

I am thrilled to welcome today’s guest, Dr. Julie Crabtree, to the show. Julie is an experienced and highly sought-after clinical psychologist and the Director of Zebra Psychology, a practice dedicated to working with creative individuals. Her curiosity and passion for understanding the inner workings of the mind, led her on an extensive research journey, culminating in the completion of a Ph.D. in clinical psychology through UTS.
Alongside her research and clinical experience, Julie personally interviewed many creatives about their processes, resulting in the successful creation of her own. Together with her musical husband, Jeff Crabtree, Julie has co-authored "Living with a Creative Mind," an operating handbook for creatives everywhere. .
In today’s conversation I pick Julie’s brain about some of the revealing ideas in her book that shape a fresh perspective on understanding the exceptional and distinctive qualities of the creative mind. Julie and I both work in the field of creative mental health and as my work is rooted in a more spiritual approach and Julie’s has a foundation in intensive research and psychology, I felt that we could have an interesting conversation exploring where our different worlds might intersect.
We dive into the realms of:
The key characteristics of the creative mindThe common complaints Julie sees in her practiceThe impact of the Covid lockdowns for creative thinkersWhy creatives often feel misunderstood and invisibleThe challenge and magic of “skinlessness”How to build emotional resilience as part of creative masterySupportive practices and routines for creative mindsThe role of meditation and mindfulnessJulie’s take on a spiritual view as a supportive anchor for creative minds.
