In our season finale, Eve and Aditi bring all of the lessons and discussions of this season full circle to discuss what it means to live an “active legacy” – how we spend this one precious life we have to live, why we choose to spend our time the way we do and how it shapes the way people remember us. They are joined by Nora McInerny, author of It’s OK to Laugh and No Happy Ending and creator of the podcast Terrible, Thanks for Asking. Nora, who writes and speaks about grief, brings her perspective on legacy through her experience of losing her husband and what it taught her about empathy, time and the importance of living authentically in every moment. Shattering the assumptions I didn’t know I have

I love this podcast. I have shared it already with many female friends and am excited to discuss the concepts. After listening to the trailer I thought “this is interesting but not that relevant to my life“. I was wrong. The lens that Evie and Aditi provide has shed light on my life. I am shocked to see just how much I have let myself believe society’s gender normative ideas about how a woman should spend her time compared to a man. Like the two presenters I and my husband are feminists and believe in the importance of gender equality. And yet after we had our son the equity/equality approach we both felt is important to how we lead our lives seemed to slip away. Suddenly the responsibility for house cleaning, cooking meals, and parenting was my responsibility. His was work. Even though I see myself as a powerful individual with agency I failed to challenge this situation. I am looking forward to discovering how this paradox came to be as this podcast peeks back the layers surrounding the core reasons why our modern society values the men’s time more highly than women’s. And why, as demonstrated through my own life, it appears I do too.
