Wanderlei Silva is a retired Brazilian mixed martial artist who is best known for his time competing in the Pride Fighting Championships, where he was the middleweight (205 lbs) champion. Silva is known for his aggressive fighting style and knockout power, earning him the nickname "The Axe Murderer".

Silva made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 1996 and quickly gained recognition for his exciting and violent fights. He became a star in Japan’s Pride organization, where he had some of the most memorable fights of his career. Silva was involved in several classic battles, including a four battle sequence with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and two fights with Mirko Cro Cop. He also had memorable wins over top contenders such as Kazushi Sakuraba, Dan Henderson, and Ricardo Arona.

Silva is considered one of the all-time greats in mixed martial arts and decided to lay his gloves down in 2018 with a professional record of 35 wins and 14 losses.
