The true source of willpower to achieve your fitness goals - Borge Fagerli

The true source of willpower to achieve your fitness goals - Borge Fagerli

In this episode, I’m speaking for a third time with Borge Fagerli about some powerful mindset techniques he uses in his coaching practice that will help you achieve your fitness, muscle-building, and weight-loss goals.
If you haven’t yet, be sure to listen to our first two episodes. In them, Borge explains his simplified but highly effective approach to training, gives us some insight into his history, and explains why he’s now focused on psychology and mindset rather than the common hyper focus on relatively trivial details that tends to dominate the world of evidence-based fitness.

Why our ancestors didn’t need to brush their teeth or floss (and what we can learn from them)
The best natural alternatives to commercial toothpaste products
Why the pH of the mouth is the most vital aspect of avoiding gum disease…do you know your oral pH?

Making sense of conflicting claims from diet gurus - Dr. Guyenet and Dr. Kratz

Making sense of conflicting claims from diet gurus - Dr. Guyenet and Dr. Kratz

In this episode, I’m re-releasing an episode with Dr. Stephan Guyenet and Dr. Mario Kratz, two impressively experienced nutrition researchers with a wide range of expertise, about their organization Red Pen Reviews, a non-profit dedicated to publishing unbiased, scientifically accurate reviews for current nutrition books hitting the market.
Today, we focus on two popular but controversial books—Dr. Steven Gundry’s The Plant Paradox and Carnivore Code from Dr. Paul Saladino.
This podcast was originally published on August 27 2022
In this podcast, Dr. Guyenet, Dr. Kratz, and I discuss:
How difficult it is to parse out accurate versus inaccurate and biased information and the regulated and systematic role of Red Pen Reviews in clearing up the confusion
The 3 focus areas Dr. Guyenet and Dr. Kratz use to score the books they review and the importance of each
How the health claims made in Carnivore Code compare to research AND anecdotal reports of people eating the diet…and how the main claim that humans evolved to be carnivores compares to evolutionary evidence
Possible downsides or even dangers of the carnivore diet and if these caveats are discussed in the book
The full truth of the claim that elevated LDL is not a cardiovascular concern if a person has excellent metabolic health
Does a nose-to-tail carnivore diet provide all the nutrients you need each day?
The Plant Paradox’s primary claim that certain plant lectins lead to approximately 50 diseases…plus, what a lectin actually is!
What current research tells us about lectins triggering leaky gut, inflammation, and autoimmune disease
The health status of people who eat large amounts of lectin-rich legumes, tomatoes, and other nightshade vegetables
Could lectins and other plant foods be stressful BUT ALSO beneficial at the same time?
Practical ways to evaluate the nutrition information you take in every day so you can more easily consider what’s accurate and what’s likely not

The fitness mindset I wish I'd known 10 years ago | Borge Fagerli

The fitness mindset I wish I'd known 10 years ago | Borge Fagerli

In this episode, I’m happy to welcome Borge back for another conversation about fitness. But this time, he’s focusing on the importance of mindset.
However, this isn’t the same mindset information you’ve heard in other places. Borge has decades of experience as a fitness expert, and he’s now approaching health through an incredibly authentic, honest, and highly effective lens that I think will help you achieve your goals, too.
In this podcast, Borge and I discuss:
Why he switched his focus from purely muscle building to mindset, and the fascinating concept of the Dunning-Kruger effect that fueled this shift
Why a big-picture view of health, fitness, and even life might be the best context for understanding new information (and living happily!) versus getting lost in the details
Our own personal journeys in the fitness industry and why comparison truly is the thief of joy
The role of social media in how we perceive ourselves and the illusion of optimal that it promotes; unfortunately, the algorithm rarely rewards authenticity
The signs that let you know someone is lying to you on social media
One major step Borge took to bring more honesty and authenticity into his already powerful message
Understanding when you should self-experiment and when you should follow a protocol…there’s a time and place for both!
Is biohacking really as valuable as everyone says it is? Or is there a more simplistic approach to health that’s just as effective?
The importance of enjoyment as part of our health routines…don’t forget to achieve your goals AND have fun!

Inspiring and hopeful

The podcasts from the Energy Blueprint are a wonderful mix of Western science and functional medicine, and give clarifying causes for vague symptoms like fatigue. What's more, Ari Whitten with The Energy Blueprint gives a series of extra-ordinary solutions within a journey to better health and energy.

This makes the message highly inspiring and hopeful for so many patients.

I have sleeping and weight problems for many years and it's quite hard to convince me, but with ongoing support from the group of the Energy Blueprint, my symptoms are very slowly getting better. I sincerely hope I can tell you very proudly over time that my energy is comparable to what it was as a child :-)

Great source of expert information

If these first three podcasts are anything to go by, it looks at if Ari Whitten is going to be speaking to the top experts in the area of fatigue. Dr. Sarah Myhill is a real expert in this field and this podcast was easy to listen to and very informative. I'm definitely going to tune in to these podcasts in the future.

Pure Gold

I heard of Ari Whitten's work first when I read his book Forever Fat Loss. At the time, I was suffering from dreadful fatigue and I was a total wreck. Not much later I bought his program The Metabolism Supercharge. It totally blew my mind and completely changed how I thought about health and how our body works.

Now, I had been into health for over a decade, and before finding out about Ari's work, I had been following most other popular health gurus.

Tim Ferriss, Robb Wolf, Dave Asprey, Mark Hyman, Mark Sisson, and the list goes on. All of them with their own idea about health, each of them with their own diet that supposedly will change your life.

There's paleo, keto, 30 bananas a day (yes that's actually a thing), the Bulletproof diet in which you mix your coffee with butter. All these crazy ideas that supposedly lead to perfect health. I did every one of them. I've heard it all and seen it all.

Then I came upon Ari's work and it just changed the whole game. It's a whole different paradigm. While all these other health guru's were playing checkers, Ari Whitten is playing grandmaster 4D chess.

A year ago, he released his latest program, The Energy Blueprint. If I thought before he was genius, this raised the bar even further, and by a fair amount I should say. Since applying the principles in this program, my life has changed for the better a 100 times. It's that good.

This podcast is basically delving deeper into the topics that he discusses in his program. I've listened to the first three episodes and it's great stuff. The people he talks to in his program are all established experts who know what they're talking about and it shows.

Ultimately, what sets Ari Whitten apart from the pack is his aversion to established dogma and dedication to evidence based health. When he tells you to do something, you can bet it's backed up by solid science.

This is why you need to listen to his stuff. It will change your life forever.
