In 1996 in San Francisco, CA, Darren J. de Leon and Norman Zelaya formed Los Delicados. Paul S. Flores would join them and for the next 5 years they scorched poetry stages everywhere with their style they called the Word Descarga. This podcast goes over the history of Los Delicados as they rose from a spoken word ensemble to the leading Latinx Poetry groups. In their prime, they recorded their CD "Word Descarga" (Calaca Press) and toured their poetry play, "Guyaberas By the Pound." They will be celebrating their 25th Anniversary in November 2021 in SF's Bay Area.

    E2 The Mission and Y2K

    In this episode, Los Delis talk about how living and creating in SF's Mission District (1996 - 2001) developed Los Delicados' stage presence. Included is also a close encounter with Bill Murray and the recipe for the Mission Libre cocktail. Featured tracks include "Bryant St." and "I Know They Will Not Be Satisfied..." from the 2000 release Word Descarga on Calaca Press. Los Delicados will be celebrating their 25th Anniversary with a series of floricantos in Berkeley, San Francisco, and San Jose from November 18-21, 2021.

    Listen to the history of how Los Delicados started from the mouths of Los Delis, Darren J. de Leon, Norman Zelaya and Paul S. Flores. They also talk about the inspiration behind the creation of the poetic form known as Presentes. This episode features two tracks from their CD "Word Descarga" (Calaca Press) CV Cafe #1 and ¡PRESENTE! Heroes, Sheroes y Otra Cosas. The poem "Dirty Laundry Full of Blood" was produced by Aztec Parrot. Guest voice appearances by Edward Rodriguez and Emma the Fembot.
