In Focus: Ensuring a Just Transition for Seafarers

Shipping has ambitious targets to decarbonise but it will only be able to reach those goals with the help of those who operate the vessels – seafarers. When it comes to decarbonisation in shipping much of the talk is around new technology, engines and the availability of alternative fuels. But for these alternative fuelled vessels to work there is a very vital piece of the puzzle – trained crews to operate them. The key role of the seafarer in shipping’s decarbonisation voyage led to the formation of the Maritime Just Transition Task Force. In this latest In Focus episode of the Seatrade Maritime Podcast you will be hearing more about the Maritime Just Transition Task Force from two of its members. Joining us today on the Seatrade Maritime Podcast are Kulsoom Jafri, Lead Campaigner, Seafarers and Inland Navigation International Transport Workers' Federation and Arvind Natrajan, Senior Manager, Marine Department, International Chamber of Shipping. In a conversation between Kulsoom, Arvind, and Marcus Hand Editor of the Seatrade Maritime News you will hear about: What is the Just TransitionThe formation of the Maritime Just Transition Task ForceThe scale of decarbonisation and training needs that have to be tackledKey areas addressed by the taskforce and achievements to dateNext steps and future goals Listen to the full episode now If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe to ensure you don't miss our latest uploads.
