US Women’s Soccer Update from Goal

Seth Vertelney has all the American women’s soccer news you need to know today, from Goal.

In NWSL action on Saturday, OL Reign grabbed a much-needed 2-0 win over Racing Louisville.

France star Eugénie Le Sommer scored both goals for OL Reign, her first goals in the NWSL since joining from French power Lyon.

In Saturday’s other NWSL match, the Orlando Pride drew the North Carolina Courage 1-1 in their first match under interim head coach Becky Burleigh.

After the game, Pride goalscorer Sydney Leroux took a thinly-veiled dig at former coach Marc Skinner, who left the club at midseason to take over Manchester United. Leroux said she was happy to have, quote, the feeling of someone wanting to be here for us.

Meanwhile in Japan, the U.S. women’s national team are making final preparations for their Olympic semi-final showdown against regional rivals Canada.

The winner of the U.S.-Canada match will face the winner of Sweden’s game against Australia in the gold medal game.
