Wake Up Podcast - Episode 18: On Grief and Loss

Welcome to episode 18 of the wake up podcast where we discuss the topic of grief and loss. As we've just passed the one year since lockdown mark, we reflect on our experiences of grief and loss, both personally and on our screens every day. Although this is a sensitive topic, we believe it is important to have these conversations to remind ourselves that we are not alone in this. If you have any thoughts on this topic, we would love to hear them so do comment below. We want to know what else you would like to hear us cover in future episodes, so if you have any suggestions please get in touch!   In our podcasts, we want to dedicate a small portion at the end of our episode to raise awareness of an issue or support a business/idea. This week we wanted to raise awareness on the Police and Crime bill in the UK. With this new bill, the government threatens our right to protest and voice our opinions. This bill will allow police to have massive control over how protests happen and stop them completely if they see fit. To stand against this follow @netpolcampaigns on Instagram for more updates, sign the petition and email your local mp with the email template below. Wake Up Podcast - Episode 17: Optimist vs Pessimist

Welcome to episode 17 of the Wake Up Podcast! In this episode, we focus on the topic of optimist vs pessimist and whether we as people see the glass as half full or empty. We also chat about the media and fearmongering, Instagram and toxic positivity, and also some of the few good things that happened in 2020. What are your thoughts on this? How do you view yourself and society in this current climate? If you're sick of all the negative news, then make sure to check out the good news network for some more positive stories.   https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/  In our podcasts, we want to dedicate a small portion at the end of our episode to raise awareness of an issue or support a business/idea. This week we wanted to raise awareness about the surge in Anti-Asian hate across the globe and the campaign #StopAsianHate. When you click on this tag on social media you will see how bad the situation is. In the UK the rate of Asian hate crimes has risen by more than 300% since the pandemic. This is not okay and we need to work to end this. We would like to shout out the non-profit organisation, Dear Asian Youth, and all the work they are doing to educate and inform people on this issue. We also want you guys to sign their petition to start the CARG (Covid-19 Anti Racism Group) in the UK to promote anti-racism against Asians specifically and call the government to take action. Wake Up Podcast: Episode 16 - A Year in Korea (an interview w Sarah)

Welcome to episode 16 of the Wake Up Podcast! (who would've thought we would make it this far lol) In this episode, we are very excited to have a special guest and close friend of ours join and share her story with us all. We chat to Sarah about her year abroad in Korea! We get into traveling, cultural differences, learning languages, living abroad during a pandemic, and more. If you've ever been curious about living abroad, Sarah's experience is definitely one to listen to.    In our podcasts, we want to dedicate a small portion at the end of our episode to raise awareness of an issue or support a business/idea. This week, the lovely Sarah is sharing the great work of the Foundation Pour l'Ecole (Foundation for Schools) with us. Education is something that is very important to us all. We think that education is a right, and all should be able to access it, but unfortunately, this is not the case. Foundation Pour l'Ecole is a French registered charity dedicated to the improvement of school teaching in France. They have developed several programs to help improve schools in need and help them deliver the same quality education coming from private schools. They also have several international programs in various countries. If you are interested in their work and would like to read more and support them, please follow the links below.   Website: https://www.fondationpourlecole.org/about-us/  Follow us on social media:   Instagram and Twitter - @wakeup_podcast     Find us on more streaming platforms!    https://linktr.ee/wakeup_podcast

Wake Up Podcast: Episode 14 - Reviewing 2020

Happy new year! Welcome back to episode 14 where we look back at the absolute mess that was the year 2020. We go through each month and talk about the key highlight, both the good and the bad. We also talk about our favourite films, series, and music releases. It was definitely a challenging year for us all but we try to look at the positives as well as the downright crazy.   In our podcasts, we want to dedicate a small portion at the end of our episode to raise awareness of an issue or support a business/idea. This week, we decided to spread awareness for Mind charity, an English and Welsh charity dedicated to helping those with mental health problems. The UK is currently in a mental health crisis because of the pandemic. It is completely vital that we prioritise mental health and look out for not only our own but other's well-being. If you are concerned about your or a loved one's mental health, please visit the Mind website for a wealth of resources and support available. If you are able to donate in these trying times where lots of people are in need of mental health support, please consider as you could be helping someone in need. Wake Up Podcast: Episode 13 - Influencers

Welcome to episode 13 of the Wake Up Podcast! Today we talk about Influencers, youtube dramas, cancel culture, apology videos, and more. We dive deep into the recent drama from the FRENEMIES podcast, involving Trisha Paytas and the H3H3 team. We ask how much of these dramas and real and how much is constructed for the clout and views. We also discuss our responsibility as an audience, in choosing what to believe and who to give a platform to. What are your thoughts regarding this topic? Do you keep up to date with youtube drama? Do you believe in cancel culture? Let us know in the comments! In our podcasts, we want to dedicate a small portion at the end of our episode to raise awareness of an issue or support a business/idea. This week, in light of the recent death of Brandon Benard - A man who was recently put to death by the death sentence in America, we wanted to bring awareness to The Marshall Project. The Marshall Project is a nonprofit news organisation that seeks to create and sustain a sense of national urgency about the U.S. criminal justice system. Please check out their website to learn more about the corruption of the US justice system and show support to ensure lives aren’t lost unnecessarily to the death penalty.
