President Biden called the wildfires surrounding Los Angeles "the most widespread, devastating fires in California’s history," and says the federal government will pay for 100% of the disaster response costs for the next six months. Former President Jimmy Carter's casket returned Thursday afternoon to his hometown of Plains, Georgia, where he will be laid to rest on his family's peanut farm.
