Wisdom, Pt. 8 | October 27, 2024
Pastor Bria Gilmore
Proverbs 4:7 (ESV) The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.
Proverbs 13:3 (NASB) One who guards his mouth protects his life; One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
Wisdom says be careful with the weapon you’re carrying because it is powerful!
Proverbs 18:21 (NASB) Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
James 3:7-10 (NASB) For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race. But no one among mankind can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people, who have been made in the likeness of God; from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, these things should not be this way.
WISE WORDS
1. Wise words bring healing.
Proverbs 12:18 (NASB) There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Are my words mending or breaking what’s around me? Are they healing or hurting?
2. Wise words bring life.
Proverbs 15:4 (NASB) A soothing tongue is a tree of life, But perversion in it crushes the spirit.
What in my life is thriving and what is dying? What words have shaped those things?
3. Wise words come from good stewards.
Matthew 12:36 (NASB) But I tell you that for every careless word that people speak, they will give an account of it on the day of judgment.
How am I stewarding the breath of God inside of me?
We Pray:
Psalm 141:3 (NASB) Set a guard, Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.
Psalm 19:14 (ESV) Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
