All Indians Matter Podcast

All Indians Matter is a digital home for conversations with and about India on the issues that truly matter. For most of our post-Independence years, this was done by the news media. However, in recent times, the media have been found wanting. As a result, the issues that should be highlighted are sidelined and the voices that should find a megaphone are muffled. This podcast is an effort to engage with everyone who cares about India, its Constitution, its liberal and secular values. All Indians Matter is the creation of Ashraf Engineer, who was a senior journalist with some of India’s leading newspapers for 17 years. His media work included a stint in 2011 in Afghanistan, where he trained and mentored journalists. He subsequently quit the news media and is now part of the brand communication industry. Driven to desperation by their circumstances, they are willing to sell their organs to those who can pay for them in India. A vast network of agents, corrupt officials and hospitals ensures that the affluent jump the queue for organs in defiance of the law.     Rape epidemic in educational institutions needs urgent attention

    The sexual assault epidemic raging across the country is now making its presence felt in educational institutions, from those of higher learning to primary schools. Over the years, the gender safety guidelines for schools, colleges and universities have been largely ignored and there is little emphasis on gender respect and sex education programmes. Couple that with our centuries-old patriarchy, a faltering criminal justice system and tendency to victim shame, and what you have is a situation in which female students are constantly at risk while the perpetrators feel emboldened.     Land registry, digitisation of records could be a gamechanger

    If implemented right, the establishment of a land registry, digitisation of records and unique land parcel identification numbers could reduce the number of land disputes, ease land transactions, facilitate flow of agricultural credit and provide a significant boost to the GDP.     Disability inclusion would serve as a beacon of social cohesion

    More than 2.68 crore Indians live with disabilities – that’s more than the entire population of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. However, an inclusive ecosystem that doesn’t ensure just respect but also empowerment of people with disabilities remains elusive. Such an ecosystem would span comprehensive rehabilitation services, rights, entitlements, equal opportunities and dignity.
