We're here to share stories from young people all around Montana about important issues and to amplify youth voices in the Montana political scene. Amplify MT Youth is a media program dedicated to educating young Montanans about politics in our state and how it affects the issues they care about. This podcast is written and hosted by Ali Caudle and Gillian Sherrill, high school students from Missoula, and produced by Montana Youth Action, a statewide, youth-run nonprofit focused on bipartisan youth civic engagement.

LGBTQ+ Students' High School Experience

Life as an LGBTQ+ student is never easy, especially in a rural state like Montana. As high schoolers ourselves, we wanted to delve into the school system and learn from LGBTQ+ students' different firsthand experiences and from a high school counselor to see if we could spot the systemic problems in our public schools that cause LGBTQ+ students to have different experiences from their straight/cis peers. We learned about everyday struggles, from hearing slurs in the hallway to finding a date for prom. We also discussed how inclusive sex education programs are and how comfortable teachers and school staff are when it comes to dealing with LGBTQ+ specific issues. We learned a lot in the process of making this first episode, and we hope that you learn something as you listen. Enjoy!
