Igniting Creativity

Hi, I'm Amy, an art teacher who left the public school sector just before the pandemic hit and now I teach in a lot of different ways on my own. Little did I know that I wasn't going to be just a teacher anymore, I was starting my own business without even realizing it! This podcast will give you some insight into the things that I wish I would have known to make the transition into a teacher business owner a little easier.

  1. Virtual Teaching: Reaching Students Around the World with Kristen Mercurio

    EPISODE 7

Virtual Teaching: Reaching Students Around the World with Kristen Mercurio

I had a fantastic time getting to know Kristen Mercurio, a fellow Outschool teacher who is a certified teacher, life coach, and business owner. She left the brick-and-mortar classroom and exclusively works online focusing on teaching international learners.  She sets her own schedule to specifically meet the needs of learners in many different time zones and has built a teaching business that is thriving as she serves the needs of students across the world.  She has big energy and is so enthusiastic about what she does.     Not only does she help children learn but she is also a moderator of the Outschool International Time Zones Parents and Teachers Group (unofficial), helping match parents with teachers who cater to learners outside of the standard North American time zones.  You can find Kristen working as a private tutor on her own and creating curriculum via her personal business Promising Futures and contracting with Teacup Wellness as a life coach.         -----     -----     -----     -----     -----   Don’t forget to check out what kind of classes Ms. M teaches!  You can find updates on her Outschool classes HERE or go directly to her Outschool teacher profile HERE.         -----     -----     -----     -----     -----  I’m looking forward to discussing flex (pre-recorded) courses, conducting interviews with other virtual teachers, and anything else you may suggest as topics you want to learn more about during Season 2.  DM me if you have a suggestion or are interested in chatting.     Building a community of coworkers is a goal of mine so what better way to do that than to start introducing you to others who we can learn from?     -----     -----     -----     -----     ----- Find me at: www.amyroadman.com @Amy.Roadman.Art on Instagram @Amy.Roadman.Art on Facebook   Have a child interested in art?  I teach multiple age groups using a variety of art media.  Check out my Outschool Classes for kids ages 3-18.   Thinking about becoming an Outschool teacher?  Access my FREE CHECKLIST to help you get started.   Looking to add some creativity into your life?  Check out the Creative Retreats and Adult Workshops that I offer.  We have scheduled our first-ever Overnight Creative Retreat and couldn’t be more excited about what we have to offer!       -----     -----     -----     -----     ----- FREE DOWNLOADABLE WORKBOOK: Take short, actionable steps toward improving your business based on the topic of each episode from Season 1. EPISODE 8

Virtual Teaching: Becoming a CEO of Your Teacher Business with Rebecca Kiziltas

Rebecca Kiziltas, a London-based French teacher, pivoted her career from working in the private sector to becoming an educator in her 30’s and soon realized that being a teacher in a brick and mortar setting simply wasn’t for her.  She switched to teaching online and has found her groove.  She has been able to enjoy the luxury of setting her own teaching hours along with teaching what she enjoys.  But teaching isn’t the only part of this job.  In order to be successful, you really do have to treat this like a business.   Rebecca has started looking at her position as the CEO of her teaching business and is really enjoying being able to use different strategies to make her business thrive.   Something even more exciting is that since we recorded this episode, she took the leap and started her own organization.  Congratulations on your growth Rebecca!          -----     -----     -----     -----     -----   You can find her personal profile of Outschool classes HERE. 4. Virtual Teaching: Building Your Business with Kristine Dizon

    EPISODE 10

Virtual Teaching: Building Your Business with Kristine Dizon

Kristine Dizon is the CEO, Founder, and Director of the Music and Language Learning Center. She is an international artist and teacher who has performed in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Kristine has been a part of several socio-cultural and educational projects that include the Philharmonie de Paris-Project DEMOS, Conservatoire de Montargis (Orchestre á l'école), and the Minnesota Project Opera.   Kristine has been an Outschool teacher for so long that she actually interviewed with one of the original founders! In this episode, she gives you strategic advice on how to stop working 14-hour days and how to scale your business all while building relationships with parents and students. One of the key takeaways is that you don't have to do everything on your own but you do have to treat this way of teaching as a business. Success is a gradual process, and by analyzing data, building funnels, working with an account manager and VA, and being flexible while you find your niche through trial and error, you can build yourself a profitable business as well. Don't miss all the great tips she drops in this episode! ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- Don’t forget to check out what kind of classes Kristine and her team offer!
