みなさんこんにちは、かなこです！今日のシャドーイングは「Verb + みたいです」。今回のPodcastは、Michaelさんの提供でお送りします。

 

Hi everyone, it’s Kanako. Today’s shadowing is “It looks like…”

When “みたいです” follows a verb, it expresses the idea that something “appears to be the case”.

 

For instance, if you were to say “My teacher seems to have caught a cold.” you can say, “先生は風邪をひいたみたいです。”.

Looks like it's going to snow tomorrow. 明日雪が降るみたいです。

My teacher seems angry. 先生は怒っているみたいです。

That person seems to be crying. あの人は泣いているみたいです。

My friend seems tired. 友達は疲れているみたいです。

Looks like I left my wallet at home. 家(ie)に財布を忘れたみたいです。

Looks like I lost my cell phone. ケータイをなくしたみたいです。

This restaurant seems to be crowded. このレストランは混んでいるみたいです。

Looks like my friend stayed up all night. 友達は徹夜したみたいです。

It looks like Mr. Suzuki won't be coming to the
office today. 鈴木さんは今日会社に来ないみたいです。

Looks like he cooks a lot. 彼はよく料理するみたいです。

Looks like she's going to the gym today. 彼女は今日ジムに行くみたいです。
