Saturday Morning Mix #2: Monday Mix-Up Edition

Oh no we messed up! "We" being Rex's internet in their new place, as moving and technology didn't go hand in hand. Wish we could blame mercury-in-gatorade for it but it wasn't even there.

So last week's  Saturday Morning Mix comes to you on a Monday afternoon instead, because better late than never. It's also going to have to tide you over until next week, as illness has struck and we won't be able to get a cycle out this week. The hits keep coming and they don't stop coming, as they say.

Luckily this playlist is all-star all around, with sweet new tunes from Viktor Orri Árnason & Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir, SiGRÚN, Matching Drapes, CYBER, and ANSI. We sure do love an ALL CAPS artist name, eh.

Tune back in with us next Tuesday May 7th for another Artist Spotlight and catch our new issue of the Grapevine hitting the streets on Friday May 3rd!

    Artist Spotlight: Dustin O'Halloran

    Artist Spotlight: Dustin O'Halloran

Another week, another brand new cycle of 66 Degrees of Sound, our podcast highlighting new music and events in Iceland. This week kicks off this week with an artist spotlight on Dustin O’Halloran, the renown American pianist, producer, and composer who now lives in Iceland.

Dustin released his latest solo album 1 0 0 1 on March 22 along with the video single “Spiritus Naturae Aeternus”, featuring a spellbinding choreography and performance by dancer Fukiko Takase.

We sat down with him for a buoyant and insightful discussion about his new release, the way the ideas took form and placed themselves in context, the nature of humanity and the role of artistry alongside the rise of AI, and just some good ol’ fashioned banter. Due to some technical issues, the interview is conducted solely by Jói in this episode, with Rex takin’ care of business in the wings.

Watch the video for Dustin O'Halloran's “Spiritus Naturae Aeternus ", released on January 31.

    Artist Spotlight: BSÍ

    Artist Spotlight: BSÍ

After a much longer break than anticipated, we are very pleased to announce the comeback of our new music and events podcast 66 Degrees of Sound!

66 Degrees of Sound is a show about the newest music being released in Iceland and the hottest events happening in Reykjavík. Kicking off a whole new chapter of the show, hosts Jóhannes Bjarkason and Rex Beckett are back behind the microphones to bring you not one, not two, but THREE episodes a week from now on! The show has already re-tooled twice already so it’s time to put the “third time’s the charm” theory through its paces.

Each week from today onwards, 66 Degrees of Sound will release an Artist Spotlight episode on Tuesdays, Events & News on Thursdays, and finally a sweet Saturday Morning Mix to keep you pumped through the weekend. The show also has a brand spanking new intro song, yay!

For the first episode of this new format begins with lo-fi indie-punk darlings BSÍ in the hotseat, or rather one half of them, drummer and singer Sigurlaug (Silla) Thorarensen. The duo have just released their first single in nearly two years called “Lily (hot dog)” (released April 1) along with a wonderful, star-studded music video, which we just can’t get enough of.

Silla joined us in Grapevine HQ’s brand new podcasting studio for a riveting and lively chat about the song, the video, the band’s plans, and general silliness.
