S4 June Bonus: Krystal Clark lived a very real - but fictional - life.
Krystal Clark's story was so powerful I couldn't wait to share this one. She experienced some awful traumas as a child that made such a profound impact on her that she nearly 'checked out' of this life a little prematurely. Her first child saved her life.

S4 E43 - Mom, Wife, Cancer Survivor, Widow, and Hero - Kim Sorrelle is who I want to be when I grow up.
Nobody would choose cancer. Kim certainly wouldn't have picked cancer out of a lineup of life options, but when her husband was diagnosed shortly thereafter with pancreatic cancer and passed only six weeks later, she had a difficult road ahead of her, learning how to navigate life all over again - this time as a single mom. Not only did she figure that out, but she rediscovered what love really was, and went to Haiti after the earthquake to discover it even more deeply than before. I love this woman. She's incredible.

S4 E41 - From her rorschach test masks to her controversial subject matter, Mason Carlisle is stirring things up in a good way.
Mason Carlisle RETURNS!
Mason first came on the podcast in September of 2022 for Suicide Awareness month. For the final Friday of September I introduced this remarkable young woman who has faced and fought so much suicide in her life. Mason Carlisle is a child sexual abuse survivor, child abuse survivor, she lost her father to an overdose, walked in on her brother's attempt and lost 8 people to suicide. Mason just published a book about PTSD and trauma. It’s a fictional ya novel centered around a school shooting survivor. We also discuss how her outlook on this endeavor changed when the most recent school shooting occurred. We talk about trauma, suicide, and our mutual love of and Bruce Willis.

S4 E40 - Being the daughter of a murdered police detective comes with a lot of invisible baggage Susan Snow had to recognize.
Detective Thomas Williams was ambushed and assassinated in 1985 simply to prevent him from testifying in an upcoming robbery trial. He was picking up his young son on Halloween day when masked gunman drove up beside him and sprayed his car with bullets. As devastating as the event was, his last act was to save his son's life by telling him to get down. His daughter, then seventeen years old, tells the story now.
