Couldn't Help But Wonder: A Sex and the City Podcast with Jamie Lee and Rose Surnow
Join comedians and best buds Jamie Lee and Rose Surnow as they analyze every episode of Sex and the City from the beginning, using HBO’s iconic series as a jumping off point to overshare about their own wild lives. The hilarious gal pals take a raw, unapologetic look at the female experience, covering every topic under the Triborough Bridge, from body positivity and self-care, to relationships and dating awkwardness. Is it okay to date someone who rides a Bird scooter? How long do you have to wait to tell your fiancé that you hate his twin? What if your boyfriend only has one ball, but three penises? "Couldn’t Help But Wonder is like a Moschino sweatshirt: larger than life, towing the line between classy and trashy, but with a wicked sense of humor.” - Carrie Bradshaw if she were a fan. Intriguing
2021-04-09
I love the analysis and comparisons to the hosts’ experiences. It reminds me of the sessions I had with my best friend when SATC first came out. Maybe it’s because I live in another country, but I have to say the nasal singsong is not de rigueur for every young woman... it is a bit cloying at times. The theme music is unbearably awful, and I skip it every listen. Everything else: entertaining!
A very white privileged and egocentric point of view
2021-07-16
The hosts aren’t interested in understanding the point of view of minorities or anyone outside of their bubble of privilege. Especially life in other countries. This is evidenced by the stories they share about their lives and their opinions on the show. I tried to look past it and listened to a few episodes but after listening to their review of the second Sex and the City movie it was too much. It was very triggering to hear them ignore the extreme disparities between the millionaires and their servants that work for almost nothing, instead, the host was excited to see the luxury and celebrated it several times. On top of that, the host didn’t see anything wrong with white tourists gawking at a Middle Eastern woman like some animal at the zoo. At least the guy that was with her in that episode brought a more balanced point of view. I think this was the same host that shamelessly said that she would never hire a good looking woman to work for her, cringe! Egocentrism at its finest. The hosts need some empathy, a training in diversity and inclusion, to talk to people who aren’t white and to get out of their bubble once in a while.
Couldn’t help but binge listen

I’m obsessed with this podcast. I feel like Rose & Jamie have become my best friends and love the first 10-15min of catching up with them before they dive into the show. Also love skyler’s little quips when he jumps in (could do it more). Anyway this podcast is getting me thru quarantine and I’ll be sad when I catch up to the episodes they’re recording now. Can’t recommend this pod enough

I really liked this podcast in the beginning. But listening to it in the pandemic has been hard. Jamie just went to Belize? In the middle of a pandemic? I just can’t. So much privilege. Yuck.
