Ep. 1: Innocence Lost - The Murder of Emanuel Jaques
What began as a hot and sunny day in late July, 1977 soon turned into a nightmare that would be forever seared into the minds and hearts of Torontonians. Twelve-year-old shoeshine boy Emanuel Jaques was shining shoes at Yonge and Dundas when he was abducted and murdered above a body rub parlor on the Yonge St strip. For years people had been calling for the city’s sin strip to be cleaned up, but politicians and police turned a blind eye to the seedy sex industry. Now a young immigrant child from Portugal had been lured to his death and four men were in custody. Canada’s largest metropolis had lost its innocence and the citizens of Toronto were demanding change.
