We're No Angels (1955 Vs. 1989)

Invasion of the Remake

In We're No Angels (1955) three convicts escape jail to find themselves inadvertently helping a family and finding their own self worth in the process. Michael Curtiz directs an all-star cast that includes Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray, Peter Ustinov, Joan Bennett, and Basil Rathbone. In the 1989 version, directed by Neil Jordan and starring Robert De Niro, Sean Penn, Demi Moore, and John C. Reilly, two prisoners escape with a death row inmate and hide in a local church. Interacting with the priests and town's folk help them find redemption in themselves. We may not be angels but Invasion of the Remake will sit in judgement on these films. One shall rise to a heavenly status and one will need to repent for its sins. Join us this week as we discuss We're No Angels!
