Shark-Proof Mindset: How Brett Turned a Bite into a Blessing
Welcome to For The Health Of It Podcast. A Healthcare Australia podcast, made for Healthcare professionals by a nurse on the inside. Your host today is Jess Tully, the HCA Brand Ambassador, and she had the pleasure of interviewing Brett Connellan, a survivor of a Shark attack back in 2016.
Brett chats to Jess about that horrific day, where he faced his worst nightmare as a surfer, and had to fight for his life. The chain of events that happened during that day, with a dash of luck, is how Brett is here to tell his story today. His medical journey post attack is extraordinary and after losing ¾ of his thigh, he has had a successful latissimus dorsi flap reconstruction to his missing thigh with skin grafts, and now is walking, running marathons, and even surfing again.
“It’s not about what happens to you. What truly matters is how you respond. That is where pride lives” – Brett Connellan

Cruising For Change: Mercy Ship Nurses Making A Difference
Welcome to For The Health Of It Podcast. A Healthcare Australia podcast, made for Healthcare professionals by a nurse on the inside. Your host today is Jess Tully, the HCA Brand Ambassador and Registered Nurse herself, and she had the pleasure of interviewing two incredible nurses who dedicate their time to giving back with Mercy Ship.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed at how many google search results come up when your searching for volunteer nursing work abroad? There are so many different companies and organisations and it makes the whole process feel extremely overwhelming. Mercy Ship is a very well known company that gives back and this episode is going to be interviewing 2 nurses with 2 different perspectives and reasons why they choose to give back to Mercy Ship.
Jono is a full time nurse, and husband. He dedicates time yearly to serve on Mercy Ship to give back and states it's his 'piece of the puzzle' that he has found to fill his cup.
Abby is a dedicated worker on mercy Ship and it about to embark on her 8th trip. She has been able to do long stints of 4+ months at a time serving for Mercy Ship and loves giving back.
You get to hear both perspectives of each individual and the reasons they dedicate their time, finances and professional life to Mercy Ship's mission
Mercy Ships began our mission to provide hope and healing to those in need in 1978. Each year we send hospital ships filled with volunteer professionals who selflessly provide life-changing surgeries to children and adults who otherwise would go without
