    The Light Beyond The Shadows (2 Timothy 4:6-8)

    "When you are walking through a valley, don't just stare at the shadows; look for the light beyond it." This quote reminds us that while shadows may surround us, the light of Christ is constant, unchanging, and always present. In the passage this week (2 Timothy 4:6-8), we see Paul reflect upon his life, considering his present, past, and future, and how he is able to see the light of Christ throughout his entire life. Likewise, we can know that the light of Christ is always present and at work in our lives, and that the shadows of our lives are never the whole story.     What Makes A Godly Leader - Part 3 (Ezra 10:1-4)

    Do we care supremely about the glory of God? And do we care sincerely about the flourishing of people's souls? Then we cannot shy away from holding people accountable to God's Word. Leaders must also be held accountable because God's Word is the highest authority. And if leaders are godly, then they will gladly accept Biblical correction because they are humble and contrite in spirit, and tremble at the Word of God. And when we hold each other to God's Word, we must speak the truth in love, which requires must wisdom and prayer. There shouldn't be any scolding or lecturing out of pride.     What Makes A Godly Leader - Part 2 (Ezra 9:5-15)

    The blood of Jesus is not a free pass to live a life of sin with no contrition or no remorse. That is by definition "ungodliness": Living without any fear or acknowledgment of God. Sadly, many spiritual leaders continue to live a life of sin with no contrition or remorse until they get caught. Even then they are remorseful about the consequences of sin, but not offending and dishonouring God's name. Godly leaders are humble and contrite in spirit because they don't take the blood of Jesus for granted. So may we not cheapen the grace of our God or lose the wonder of the cross – of how God in His holiness could welcome sinners into His presence.     What Makes A Godly Leader - Part 1 (Ezra 9:1-4)

    We desperately need godly leaders – elders, deacons, disciple makers – in our church and in our generation who tremble at the words of God. So how do you begin to tremble at God's word? How can you grow in the fear of the Lord? Growing in the fear of the Lord according to Scripture comes from hearing God's word, through reading and keeping God's word and doing what it says. There is a direct correlation between our Bible intake and our fear of God. And there is a massive difference between active listening and passive listening. Do you actively listen to sermons at church treating the Word as the very words of God or do you passively listen waiting for the preacher to keep you alert? Same thing as you read the Bible: Are you just skim reading and quickly scrolling along, or are you meditating on the Word and allowing it to make an impression on your soul so that it changes your thoughts and desires and motives?     Oh Give Thanks To The Lord (1 Chronicles 16:34)

    On Thanksgiving Day, it's a great time to think about thanksgiving as a daily practice – a way of living that transforms not just the holiday meal but the whole course of our lives. Giving thanks is a lot like the salad you see at every Thanksgiving table – it's healthy and good for you but it often gets ignored. We know it's important but sometimes it gets shadowed by everything else that's on the table. But the truth is that true, heartfelt thanksgiving isn't just a seasonal activity. It's a posture of the heart. It's a daily choice that keeps us focused on who God is and what He's done. When we make thanksgiving a practice, it does something very powerful.     Loved To The End (John 13:1-17)

    Do you know how much Jesus loves you? And have you experienced His love for yourself? Maybe you know Jesus loves you, but more intellectually, because that’s what the Bible says. Or maybe you’re asking yourself right now, have I truly experienced his love in my heart? There’s one simple way you can tell if the love of God is real to you and that is by seeing whether the fruit of the Spirit is evident in your life. Is there a growing presence of love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in your life? But in order to see that kind of transformation in your life, you have to have the love of Christ reside in your heart. So do you know how much Jesus loves you and have you experienced his love for yourself? In John 13:1-17, Jesus, on his last night with the 12 disciples, wanted them to know and to experience his love even more tangibly. He demonstrates his special love for them by washing their feet and shows them how he truly loved them to the end.
