How Can Artificial Intelligence be Used to Produce Timber Designs?

How Can Artificial Intelligence be Used to Produce Timber Designs?

How Can Artificial Intelligence be Used to Produce Timber Design
A conversation with Dr. Luke Whale, CoFounder of DAISY AI, Inc.

Listen to Dr. Luke Whale describe an exciting new AI technology
that promises to revolutionize timber design for manufacturing.

The AI tool is called DAISY, acronym for Design AI Systems, and it
uses genetic programming to find an optimal design for almost
any given floor system. Using the principals of evolutionary search
and natural evolution, DAISY derives a more efficient solution
generation by generation, until the optimum design is attained.

    Listen to Luke explain …

What we need artificial intelligence in design
The impact this will have on the design profession
How Luke sees the future of timber design
    What comes next for DAISY?

Luke is a well known UK timber engineer and a true pioneer
in the development and use of design software. He has also chaired
the UK Code Committee for structural timber products for over 30
years and is a co-author of the European Timber Design Standard
    called Eurocode 5.

How is Modular Hotel Construction Financed?

How is Modular Hotel Construction Financed?

The availability of finance has been - and still is - a major challenge for modular construction. Many banks won’t touch modular projects for a variety of reasons and the challenge of financing has actually impeded the rate of adoption for modular building. But a solution is at hand!

Hear from Kyung Kim, a Senior VP with AVANA Capital who has direct experience in modular financing as he takes you through each step of the modular financing process.

    - The difference between financing traditional on site construction and modular construction

    - Why banks are reluctant to finance modular projects

    - How private lenders, like AVANA Capital, get comfortable with the risks

    - Specific examples of Marriott Hotel modular projects that AVANA has financed

Kyung Kim is an experienced professional with more than a decade in the financial services industry. Prior to going AVANA Capital, he spent 11 years at GE Capital in various roles including mergers and acquisitions, business development and strategic planning. Kyung has undergraduate degrees in industrial engineering and quantitative economics from Stanford University. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Kyung will be speaking at IWBC, along with 42 other speakers from 9 countries - a veritable treasure chest of information on offsite construction from around the world. You will not want to miss this conference! To register, go to http://www.IWBCC.com

How Ikea and Skanska joined forces to tackle affordable housing

Hear the story of how furniture giant IKEA combined forces with European construction giant Skanska to form BoKlok, a major offsite homebuilder that is successfully tackling the affordable housing challenge in Scandinavia.

Jerker Lessing, Head of R&D for BoKlok, explains:

    • Why architects were not involved in the early development process
    • The importance of affordability and sustainability
    • How BoKlok homes are affordable to a single parent with one child and a small wallet!
    • Why BoKlok is now installing solar panels on 100% of its houses

With a PhD in engineering from Lund University in Sweden, Jerker is Director of Research & Development at BoKlok. BoKlok is a joint venture between IKEA and one of Europe’s largest construction companies Skanska.

BoKlok is Sweden’s leading industrialized housing company and to date has produced more than 11,000 houses.

Jerker has specialized in the field of offsite construction for 16 years and is considered to be one of the world’s leading experts.
