Discovering the untold history of queer life, one person at a time

    Noel

    Noel

Listen to Noel share the story of his life. We talk about what it was like for him growing up in a 60s Catholic all boys Orphanage, before getting married and having a kid at a young age. It wasn’t long before Noel ‘put down my toolbox, picked up my handbag and ran away to Ireland!’ where he was arrested for being out drinking on the underground scene there. The 90s took Noel to Brighton where you can hear what it was like working on the frontline of the AIDS crisis, where he would treat people in the day and see them on the scene at night where he worked as a well known DJ ‘the queer on the pier’. Now on his 21st year in Nottingham, he acts as a mentor for his community and is now affectionally known as ‘Dame Mama Noel’. We talk about what life was like then and now, how Grindr has changed the scene, saunas and cruising grounds. He shares advice and tells us about the beautiful relationship he has with his son and ex wife. *disclaimer, I say ‘yeah’ about 2k times during this one hour podcast - sorry!
