Reel Window: Rewatching Random Movies from our Childhood

It’s as if Julia Child and Nora Ephron made a podcast. Lisa (Julia) and Pauline (Nora) have strong opinions, great chemistry (they’re sisters who clearly love each other so, duh) and they’re really funny. Lisa always has a laugh in her voice and Julia’s lovely flutey tones and Pauline has Nora’s wry and dry delivery, and is more deadpan. I couldn’t be more proud of these two great Canadians! Highly HIGHLY recommend.

Two sisters take us back to their favourite films from childhood in a time machine wrapped in a cozy blanket of nostalgia. The movie trivia episode, a prelude to the review episode, is clever and precise. Trivia does take a back seat to the sisters comedic banter and friendly competition. So funny!! The movie breakdown episodes that follows the “triviasodes” seems a casual chat but there is a formula these movies need to live up to - such as the modern Bechdel test. (Look it up!) Sadly many fail. It’s during these episodes the sisters giggle and reminisce as they reconcile their childhood perceptions to how they view the movie now. The sweetness of their relationship is clear as younger sister Pauline often quips to her older sister’s deeper understanding of adult situations saying, “I didn’t clock that! I used to think it was the year difference between us but I don’t think that explains it - I think you must have just been smarter!!!” Older sister Lisa politely laughs while bolstering Pauline’s confidence. The sisters relationship is the brilliance of this podcast. Lisa Marie is whip smart remembering every detail of the movie. (We are talking movie score detail!!) The trivia and movie detail can be a bit beyond the listeners reach. It doesn’t matter though because the two quickly provide context as they go back and forth in their own reaction to the detailed little nugget each sister brings to stump or impress the other! Pauline’s comedic timing is spot on with laugh out loud observations in every episode. The movie plays second fiddle to the warmth these sisters share and it obvious that their love of movies is a distant second to how much they love each other.❤️♥️❤️

It’s not often one comes across a podcast that feels like sitting with long lost friends and inspires you to rewatch classic movies; Reel Window is exactly that kind of journey. Buckle up and track it, these girls are your new best friends.
