    44: On "Daddy Issues"

    44: On "Daddy Issues"

Crazy how when a girl is abused by one of her primary caregivers, someone can throw it back as an insult later. Colloquially, "daddy issues" means a woman who's more promiscous, needy, and probably dates older men. When it should actually mean "survivor who lived through childhood trauma and what the fuck is wrong with fathers for screwing over their daughters like that". Guess it just doesn't have the same ring to it. **Content warning for lengthy discussions of trauma & its lifelong effects.** (But don't worry we laugh at inappropriate times to lighten the mood, as usual.)

This week's episode: Sad Girls do Poor Things. The 2023 movie starring Emma Stone, Mark Rufio, and Willem Dafriend has stirred up some spicy rhetoric. Is it a movie about feminine agency, or an exploitative sexfest? Let's get wine drunk and discuss! Full of spoilers.

    42: On Being Unladylike

    42: On Being Unladylike

Since the dawn of time, girls have been socialized to be polite, modest, and dignified. It's an ancient, cross-cultural idea that's still around today. "Boys will be boys", while women of all ages aren't given the same allowances. We're here to say, fuck that.

41: On Women's Soccer, Corruption, and Good Ol' Toxic Masculinity

We know you were desperate for more sports-related content. Last week was so fun we just had to keep it going! This one covers the Qatar/FIFA controversy and pay gap between the women's and men's soccer teams in the US (it is extreme). Then we go to discrimination, NCAA college sexual assault stats, and question whether contact sports are really all about suppressed homoerotic desires. Go team Sad Girls ._.

    40: On SPORTS!

Sportsball. Spurtsin'. Sportsaroonees. Good or bad?? We take SPORTS! very seriously here. While there are absolutely benefits to participating in SPORTS! and it has noticeable cultural benefits, there's a dark side to it ~as well.~ But we didn't talk about it. We left out the relationship between colonization, capitalism, and SPORTS! Also avoided the pay disparity between the (majority white) top coaches and average NFL player, and the near 100% likelihood that professional players will leave that career with life changing brain damage. No. We didn't talk about that at all. SPORTS! ig: @sadgap.podcast / @misandristmemes / @txgothgf / music producer
