On November 30, 2021, when Ethan Crumbley opened fire on his classmates at Oxford High School killing four students, the reactions to this modern American phenomenon were sadly familiar. The events that unfolded in the aftermath of the Michigan shooting, however, were anything but. The teenage assailant’s parents, Jennifer and James, were thrust into the national spotlight, when, in an unprecedented turn of events, the two were charged in connection with their son’s acts of violence. Raising questions about parental responsibility, agency and what could have been done to prevent the heartbreaking tragedy, Law and Crime presents the most in-depth analysis to date – exploring these complex questions and more by taking you behind the scenes of the historic trials of Jennifer and James Crumbley in SINS OF THE CHILD. Unnecessarily salacious
Sept 11
I was extremely interested in the topic because it was such an unusual outcome of the shooters trial, but even the tone of the narrator sounded like they were sharing gossip than giving an impartial account of the proceedings, which felt like a disservice to the story and the victims. And I agree with the other reviewer - why the descriptions about what the women were wearing??? If you wanted to set the scene so the audience could imagine what was happening, why not share the setting and rooms etc. It was so awkward and cringy to get the fashion update. I hope another podcast covers the topic so I can have a better listen. This version is so-so if you have nothing else, but I would go elsewhere if you have a choice.
Strangely put together
Sept 5
I think this story is really interesting at its core but I listen to a lot of true crime and I thought this was really mishandled and hard to listen to. The first thing that bothered me is the long seemingly unedited clips of really bad quality audio - it needed to be cut and more clearly explained because otherwise it was just really difficult and borderline annoying to listen to and follow. I also found the interviews with the survivors tone deaf. Obvious, thoughtless, insensitive questions that seemed to just be mining their trauma. I prefer these podcasts, especially because they handle such sensitive subject matter, to be handled delicately and by someone who has a thoughtful and compelling point of view. If I wanted this type of thing I’d just listen to Dateline instead.
Yellow eyelet blazer?

Why are you describing the outfits of female lawyers and witnesses? It jumped out every time you did it. It sounds ridiculous.
