If we've got a body and behavior component, do we need to do something with that? And that might have included diet and nutrition. Ben Calder  You know, I see quite a number of people in their 60s and 70s. And almost the number one thing that they will tell me is that the doctor has told them that they can expect it because of their age. And at that point, I want to slap that doctor and just say, No, that's not true. Ben Calder  You know, give yourself a decade to master a level of Qigong, and it's not a quick fix, and you may not even feel it in the first 2,3,4 sessions. You know, the Chinese would traditionally say 100 days of practice to start feeling your chi and then the rest of your life to master it.   ABOUT BEN CALDER: I have for many years had an interest in how people tick & the ability of the body and mind to restore its self naturally to optimum health given the right motivation. For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/autumn-bear      Highlights from today's episode include: Autumn Bear  Because these are the things that seem to irritate the body the most, gluten, dairy, soy, alcohol and sugar, those guys across the board, seem to be the biggest irritants. They cause the most inflammation, and they're the first ones, you know, if someone is developing some sort of food sensitivity, that's usually the place I like to start.   Autumn Bear  So when we're looking at disease, we're really trying to figure out, where did this, you know, dysbiosis or imbalance start, and how do we really treat the root so that all the branches of that tree essentially start to heal themselves as a result of treating the root.   Autumn Bear  Oftentimes, patients are saying, Listen, I'm having all these things. These are happening to me, and ultimately, what they're getting is doctors that are saying, Well, I think you just have anxiety, so I want to put you on Xanax and that's so it's just frustrating and debilitating.   ABOUT AUTUMN BEAR Bio : Autumn Bear M.S., L.AC, DIPL AC My formal training in classical Chinese medicine was transmitted directly to me by the esteemed Taoist master and 88th generation practitioner Jeffrey C. Yuen of the jade purity and dragon gate lineage. I apprenticed with the commonwealth herbal program in Boston mastering dietary therapy and western herbal medicine.  I worked toward a Masters of Public Health at the University of Arizona & with a specialty in international medicine and maternal and child health, where my continued focus was in the areas of epidemiology, nutrition, environmental health, physiology, and psychology.  I am licensed to practice acupuncture by the states of Utah and New York and I am a board certified diplomate of acupuncture as conferred by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine & NCCAO.  My Masters of Science in acupuncture is from the Swedish Institute of Health Sciences in New York City. I have had the great privilege of teaching as a professor at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine & New York, as well as in programs focused on integrating acupuncture into mainstream medicine at both the University Paris xi Faculte de Medecine Paris-sud & Paris, France, and at the Wu Ming Dao Healing Center & Moscow, Russia. Core purpose/passion: I have been specializing in Long Covid over the last few years. For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/alisha-dimasi     Highlights from today's episode include: Alisha DiMasi  17:54 We could be keeping our loved ones at home after they die, and we could be the ones the family washing the body, you know, which is more of a ritualistic washing, not like a scrub, a dub, dub washing, um, and having a multi day vigil. Alisha DiMasi  These are hard conversations, and it's hard to say goodbye, but don't underestimate what a gift it is to plan ahead and give some information, because the people that are left behind want to do what you wanted to do, Alisha DiMasi  But talking about death is very life affirming, okay? Because if we're talking about this final, this finality, what could reflect back to us more the amazing and incredible opportunity we have here today to be alive, right?   ABOUT ALISHA DIMASI Alisha DiMasi, Well Within’s founder, comes to you as an occupational therapist, mother, and deeply curious human. Over her studies and career, she has worked with infants through elders in public and private schools, hospitals, and assisted livings. During Alisha’s many years in the local public and private residential schools she served students with a wide range of physical and cognitive & dis-bilities. Those years highlighted for her the importance of parent and caregiver; engagement and the power held within the home setting to support a child’s growth. Through her own mothering she witnessed the transformative capacity of coregulation. Alisha’s involvement with Threshold Care began in 2016 and gave home to a longtime interest in burials that were environmentally sound and financially accessible.  Her involvement with Threshold Care nurtured an interest in holistic end of life care.  It was an education to compare Threshold’s work to the end of life practices she saw in the assisted livings. In 2021, she became a board member. Through her two pregnancies and home births, Alisha became a student of Trust. It was also then she began looking in wonder at the multitude of parallels between birth and death. She continues to study the power of these portals and the rites of passage marking the space between them.  Alisha’s experience as a parent has been expansive, beautiful, and grueling, often within moments of one another! Alisha holds exploration in high regard and has many interests. She loves building community connections, loves to sing, and is learning to play her first instrument- a banjolele.  Alisha has lived her personal study in: physiological birthing, respectful parenting, natural motor development, the natural care of our bodies; including in acute and chronic illness; permaculture design, living with loss and grief & and the sensory integration changes that can accompany trauma, and most recently but certainly not least—Human Design.  Alisha lives in Lyndeborough with her two children and husband on their small homestead. Core purpose/passion: I am a multi-passionate person and what has risen above the rest in recent years is my desire to support individuals and family systems in finding, feeling, and claiming their power during everyday interactions with themselves, their children/family, and the outside world. Transforming Breast Cancer Awareness with a Life-Changing Self-Exam App with Jessica Baladad on the Healers Cafe & host Manon Bolliger

In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) speaks with Jessica Baladad about her journey as a breast cancer survivor, the creation of the Feel for Your Life app, and how it empowers individuals to perform self-breast exams, track changes, and navigate their health with greater confidence.  For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/jessica-baladad   Highlights from today's episode include: Jessica Baladad  So let's say you have a screening, and you get this pathology report back, and you're reading it, and it's like, what does this mean? I don't understand it. And you start Google things, and it doesn't make sense. So I took the guesswork out of that.   Jessica Baladad  06:01 Yeah. So we even have a little term in the breast cancer community called scanxiety, where you are afraid of getting scans and exams. I mean, they're necessary, and we joke about it, but it's real that we have that fear of getting scanned,   Jessica Baladad  And so, you know, it's...people have a lot of different feelings about it, but ultimately, I want women to understand how their screenings work, how the pathology is done, and what they can do to empower themselves to get through that fear, because knowledge helps overcome that anxiety.   ABOUT JESSICA BALADAD: Jessica Baladad, six-year cancer survivor, is the creator of Feel For Your Life, a free mobile application that provides resources on how to perform self breast exams and when to get screenings, while allowing users to track and monitor their changes and set reminders. An unexpected breast cancer diagnosis at 33 years old empowered Jessica to channel her experience into a mission that is changing the way women advocate for their medical care. It’s the first of its kind created by a breast cancer patient and has been downloaded tens of thousands of times all over the world. In 2024, Jessica implemented an AI feature into the app to help patients interpret and better understand pathology reports from their breast cancer screenings. Jessica’s history with breast cancer catalyzed her dedication to building Feel For Your Life. She’s the fourth generation on her paternal side of the family to be diagnosed with the disease, and yet, no known gene mutation has been found in her lineage. She first learned how to do a self breast exam after having a benign tumor removed at 18, and nearly 15 years later, Jessica was diagnosed with Stage 2B invasive ductal carcinoma after performing a routine self exam in the shower. She underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, 24 rounds of radiation, a hysterectomy and 10-hour flap reconstruction. Since launching the app, Jessica has expanded her advocacy into healthcare reform. She has helped write legislation in the State of Tennessee to promote risk reducing measures against cancer and disease. Billed as the Feel For Your Life Act, it requires high school students to learn about self breast exams, testicular exams and skin exams. Additionally, Jessica has spoken out against insurance companies before members of Congress. She is working to eliminate quality-adjusted life-year & QALY ; scores, Pharmacy Benefits Managers (PBMs) and co-pay accumulators. Jessica plans to grow her efforts further by working with medical providers, patients and vendors to bridge the gaps that keep individuals from getting access to the care they deserve. Jessica has been featured on Good Morning America, Tank’s Good News, USA Today, The Dave Ramsey Show, UpWorthy and several national and international media outlets. She’s worked with the NFL on their Crucial Catch Campaign to promote cancer screenings, received the Hometown Hero Award from Ponce Law on Nashville’s Fox 17, has been recognized by the National Breast Cancer Foundation for her leadership initiatives and was the recipient of the Mona Lisa Foundation Grant in

In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) speaks with Melissa Jarzynski about the physiological benefits of equine-assisted therapy, such as improved nervous system function.   For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/melissa-jarzynski     Highlights from today's episode include: Melissa Jarzynski  08:10 Well, so now that we know about the horses being able to read so much of the humans based off their sensory apparatus, right? So, a horse, just by smelling us from many, many feet away, will know your gender. Will know your mood. They can smell your mood through the hormones that we are secreting   Manon Bolliger One of the things that I noticed, though, because I went to that to participate, to teach the humans the human part, and, yeah, if, let's say, if a human being had pain in their hip and they were, you know, straddling the saddle a certain way, it would impact the horse.   Melissa Jarzynski  When ever you are on the back of a horse, that horse is dancing with the rider, and so it's just like it takes two to tango if you have a lame horse, you know, let's take a look at your riding biomechanics.   ABOUT MELISSA JARZYNSKI: Melissa Jean Jarzynski, MSPT, HPCS, ESMLH, excels in integrating physical therapy with equine-assisted practices, particularly emphasizing trauma-informed care. As the owner of Happy Trotters, Melissa Jean PT and Stable Friendships Foundation and with over 19 years of expertise, Melissa is a board-certified Hippotherapy Clinical Specialist and is certified with PATH Int. and EAGALA. Her pioneering spirit is most evident in her program, "Finding Peace in the Paddock™". This groundbreaking work focuses on the interplay between human and horse heart rates, revealing significant benefits for those dealing with trauma, stress, and chronic pain. Her research in this area, though preliminary, has already begun to illuminate the profound effects of equine-assisted therapy. It's not just about physical healing; Melissa's work highlights the deep emotional and psychological connections that can be fostered between humans and horses, offering a new dimension to trauma-informed care. This unique blend of therapy and equine interaction is a testament to her innovative approach in enhancing holistic well-being. Who's really healing in this, what they've experienced from their their interaction with clients and patients and what the takeaways and understanding of what the process of healing is all about and the process of life. So that's the essence of what I'm doing. I'm hoping that this will serve also for patients that have issues and are looking for different ways of approaching it. * De-Registered, revoked & retired after 30 years of practice. Now resourceful & resolved to share with you all the tools to take care of your health & vitality!
