The Pink Moon Murders is an investigative, true crime podcast that delves into the slaughter of eight members of the Rhoden family in rural, Appalachian Ohio in 2016. It was a night that shocked the country with its brutality—and its mystery. Who would commit such horrible crimes? And why? Ohio native David Raterman, a longtime journalist and former author for National Geographic, spent 18 months researching this, interviewing Rhoden survivors and friends as well as hundreds of others in the small community. He even spoke with prosecutors and police officers who were officially gagged by the judge, visited the crime scenes countless times, and pored through records at courthouses throughout the region. Two and a half years after the Rhoden murders, investigators suddenly arrested six members of another family. Raterman attended more than 20 of their hearings at the small, one-room courthouse in Pike County and interviewed their neighbors and friends. What he discovered about that family, who owns the most land in the county as well as an elite horse farm, will leave listeners in utter disbelief. And what he reports overall will surprise investigators—as well as true crime listeners who think they’ve heard it all. Presented by Cavalry Audio and iHeartPodcasts

Interesting events with lots of questions. The hosts voice is pretty monotone and there is a fair amount of repeating things earlier said. There’s a hilarious amount of sound effects in the background… I’m going to try a few more and see how it shapes up..
Interesting, but…

So it seems well-researched, and the writing is fine. However, the production is weird. The choice to have like a Svenghoulie type doing announcements is straight up confounding, and the host’s voice sounds like when you’re in middle school, and the teacher calls on the quiet guy who hates reading aloud. And there’s so many repetitive ads.
Intimate Telling…

The podcast connects on the level of “local investigative reporter with gumption” and, in my opinion, is a more intimate, detailed account of the characters. The first few episodes imply that we don’t know the perpetrators, but try to get past that - assume that this is a historical telling of the events in real time. Quite good, and quite compelling… The podcast’s/journalist’s Facebook page is an amazing visual resource - I repeat: Go to David’s Facebook and/or Twitter; he shares so much content. Well done!

As mentioned it felt like the Narrator was reading direct from a statistical sheet and also his voice is not good enough to hold the audience. Looking forward to Season 2 of the Piketon Massacre which does a much better job on these murders. Also 8 minutes of ads for 29 minute episode (21 mins of content) is piss poor.
