Lawyer

As a lawyer in Canada, I find this podcast fascinating from a comparative law and procedure perspective. I like learning how some things differ in America, and how some are similar to the way we do them here. Also, I loved the statutory interpretation episode. I “geeked out” over that one. Great work… and I love your other podcast too.

Yikes - Hard Disagree about Adnan

An innocent man should not have to sit in prison an extra 6 months after the prosecution FINALLY did the right thing for Adnan. Two family’s were torn apart the day Hae was murdered. Adnan is a victim too. What if it were your son, Brett? Alice, I’m sure you’d want your son home as soon as possible also. Or, maybe you’d prefer to have another day stolen from them unjustly. Time to get real answers for Hae’s family!

Please follow up re Hae Min Lee

I came to the Prosecutors Legal Brief on the Adnan Syed- Hae Min Lee case. I was of the opinion that his guilt had not been proven. I did want healthy discussion, not polarized camps - guilty, innocent. Some feedback:
I disliked the “trust us, we’re prosecutors” tone. “Trust us, people lie all the time”. I disliked the sneering disdain of Asia McLean. I would have liked to see the matter of Don addressed more thoroughly, and concession that he truly wasn’t fully investigated. I felt the position taken on lividity was glossed over and unconvincing.

I actually liked hearing their theories of how it happened. Alice gave a very emphatic, theatrical delivery, like closing arguments. A jury could convict based on how convincing she sounds. Bravo. If I had a murdered loved one, I would want her to be prosecuting the case.

But I then listened to the Bob Ruff follow up episodes. I had never had much of an opinion of Bob Ruff, but he has gotten better over the years, imo. I would say he has a far greater grasp of the facts of the case. That said, I think the prosecutors could lend to a very healthy dissection of the facts of the case if they would address Bob Ruff’s feedback. He offered some very strong rebuttal to the Prosecutors take on the case. Why won’t they respond? What is there to lose? Isn’t everyone in search of the truth?
