Interesting back story on Juul
Enjoyed this pod but felt juul’s/vapes are being unnecessarily positioned as evil monsters. Teenagers have been drinking, smoking, and doing drugs for ever and they always will. None of these things are made for them but they do it anyway. Wish the pod had presented a bit more of a nuanced view in that sense
Good background but zero science re: health claims
This podcast does a good job telling the story of how Juul began. But throughout all the episodes, they continue to use Juul’s main marketing message: that vaping is not as unhealthy as smoking traditional cigarettes. Yet there is no actual science, evidence, data to suggest that this is true and the show just leaves you with the impression that you should vape instead of smoke cigarettes. We actually have no clue if vaping is “safer” - and if you include the public health perspective (ie that hundreds of thousands of kids picked up vaping who would never have picked up a cigarette) then in fact it’s NOT a safer alternative. I just feel like this whole podcast was actually pretty pro-vaping, when the science is just NOT there for us to determine if vaping is safer. A hell of a lot of those unsubstantiated claims are made without any evidence to back it up.
Love This show!
This show is done really well and I thought it was super interesting. My only complaint is that it’s too short!
