Neal works with a team of fire behaviour specialists, weather forecasters, data scientists, researchers, and software developers to deliver wildfire predictions, scientific analyses, technology, and expertise to enhance operational decision making. Neal was first introduced to wildfire management as an Alberta Junior Forest Ranger in 1999. Throughout his career in wildfire Neal has provided predictive services to planners and incident management teams, coordinated regional wildfire management planning, co-authored scientific papers on wildfire hazard and risk, instructed national and international fire simulation modelling courses, and led development of wildfire prediction software. Janet received a Bachelor of Nursing Science from the University of Windsor and a Master’s in Health Services Administration from the University of Alberta. She is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors’ Education program at Rotman, the UC Berkeley School of Public Health’s Global Health Leadership program and has an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from the University of Windsor. She is an Officer of the Order of Canada and has been named twice to the list of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women and Canada’s Top 25 Most Influential Women.
