    E26: Why posting "high value" content doesn't work...

    After a brief hiatus from posting Podcast episodes I am back. In this episode I talk about the advice to post "High Value Content" on your social media in order to attract your audience. I am personally guilty of spending many years, going organic methods alone, and posting what I believed was high value content on my Facebook profile, Instagram. In fact, if there is a place to put lengthy content - I have put it there. I published posts on LinkedIn and Medium. I also did a lot of webinars and live video content over my 8 years online. However, the advice to just create content and you will automatically be discovered is rampant and ultimately misleading. And the reason why it doesn't actually work: writing lengthy informative posts is pretty simple: people have short attention spans. Not to mention the fact that ever since Gary Vaynerchuk started telling people to produce massive amounts of content, his influence has led to everyone and their pet cat producing massive amounts of content - and now audiences are being flooded every day with what is supposed to be "high value" but in the end it is just noise. In this video I talk about my switch in 2019 to posting more casually and using memes and shorter posts to get attention. I also talk about where ads come in and how you should be using shorter content pieces to build your audience and longer content pieces to establish your expertise. It isn't that I don't think that high value content doesn't have it's place, it is just that people need a reason to pay attention first. Ever since I switched my own content strategy I have experience a lot more growth on my profiles and I have freed up a lot more time for myself. I have also started selling more of my courses which is awesome because now I am actually being paid for the "value" rather than just putting it up on Facebook and Instagram for Free.     E25: Going All In On My Shopify E-Commerce Store

    A lot has happened since my last episode where I talked about my Riot Girl Rebirth page going viral. After that FB post reached over 1 million people we experienced an incredible surge of traffic on the Riot Girl Rebirth website. At the time the website was a hot mess. There was a "free pin just pay shipping" giveaway that I had been running that was still in place and some of the pins had actually sold. I decided that I needed to take this opportunity and get the Shopify store where we had merchandise up and running. I realized we only had a limited amount of time to take advantage of this free organic traffic so I rebuilt the site overnight. Then, I started setting up some ads to re-target the new people who were engaging with the Facebook page. In all honesty, the first few days were a bust, but over time we started to see progress. Within a week we were actually turning a profit on the store although ad costs were still high. Obviously, there is still a lot of work to be done but after a month we had things fairly stable and broke even, if not made a profit every single day. Since the time of making this video, we have actually had a second surge of interest, and another post reaches over 1 million people. Basically my husband is an Oberlo and Shopify pro helping me out. It is exciting to see my Riot Girl Rebirth project really taking off! It has been quite the ride AND THIS was an unexpected twist to the story. Really all I can say is stay tuned, listen up.     E23: Social Media Audience Building: The Importance of Creating Community

    Plenty of people WANT to be popular on the internet. However, those who succeed with their ambition to have internet fame have one thing in common. No, they don't have perfect aesthetic or a flawless catalog of content. No, they don't have money or the Illuminati on their side.  The reason why some people can build an online fan base and some people cannot, I believe is the community. Community is the essence of all social media mass followings. In this video, I use the examples of Pewdiepie on Youtube and Violet Benson on Instagram ( @daddyissues ) BUT these are just two examples of social media celebrities with massive followings who do not fixate on aesthetic but rather on community. And these social media famous people have immense followings and incredibly loyal audience within niches'. They do not worry about appealing to everyone. They know WHO they are connecting with and they DO NOT obsess over trying to have mass appeal. Now, you may wonder how could YOU also build a social media audience of that size. Well becoming that level of success on social media is like becoming a rockstar in this day and age. It isn't impossible but I also wouldn't bet on it. However, the chances of YOU being able to carve a little piece out for yourself and construct an audience that roots for you and believes in your content, very possible IF you put community first. Community IS the essential component to building your following. It is HOW you can create successful businesses using social media. Without community people just assume that you are there for yourself ( and they won't support you! ) - In this episode today I share my thoughts on community building and why I think it is the most vital element of social media marketing.     E22: Creating A Simple Social Media Marketing Strategy For Your Business

    Create content they said. It will be great they said. But now you post content every day for all of your social media and as far you have seen it isn't paying off! In this video today, we talk about creating a social media marketing and strategy and why, if you produce content ( do content marketing ) you are going to want to begin to try to think more strategically about how your content all works together.  One of the most common mistakes that business owners who produce content for marketing purposes make IS NOT having a next step or a plan in place to convert the curiosity that the content generates into a "next step". They struggle, to get any R.O.I from their content marketing because they haven't made it possible ( or easy ) for people to take action after they have got their attention. They may not have a re-marketing plan in place or any longer form, warming content: example: a freebie, to leverage in order to take that relationship further. The consequence of being a constant state of producing content for content sake and being stuck on a treadmill. Lots of hard work, little return, lots of discouragement. My advice. Anticipate what your customer is going to want to do next. Understand the importance of building a relationship when you are the product that you sell. Take the time to include a call to action - and develop a warming sequence of events, to assure long term you set yourself up for success.     E21: What Facebook CAN DO for your business! The exciting thing about Facebook.

    This week on Facebook Friday, we talk about the positive things that Facebook CAN DO for entrepreneurs who are just starting out. I address the opportunities that Facebook provides and has provided me while also being honest about the common misconceptions that people have regarding Facebook and the "get rich quick" ideas that are floating around. Once again I share my story of how I went from resentfully working as an assistant manager at the mall to starting my first online business selling explainer video scripts, las well as writing landing pages and sales pages to online.  If you are someone who is still in the phase of just messing around on Facebook and aren't sure what you need to do next, my advice is to get very clear on what you are selling and who you are selling it to. Having a good understanding of who your customers on Facebook are going to be and how / what you are going to sell to them is the secret to being able to use Facebook to find these customers effectively. Remember that you can make progress and build your network organically by haning out in Facebook groups.     E20: Please DO NOT post one more thing on your business social media until you do this!

    Get off the content treadmill! Do you feel like you need to come up with something new to post every single day? Are you living for the small engagements such as likes and comments but feel like you aren't getting any big wins. The obsession with producing great micro-content can often distract us from producing quality macro content OR putting in the must-have backend systems that will assure that our content can go to work for us in the future.  In this episode of Visibility & Connection I explain the importance of having a functional website or single landing page where you can send people who are curious about what you do and collect their information so that you can speak to them again in the future. I explain how short attention spans on social media create a lot of drive by traffic with potential audiences seeing your stuff, but not interacting with it in a meaningful way because their is no CTA attached to the content. We discuss how you can set yourself up and improve the results you are getting from social media marketing by creating a landing point where new audience members who are curious can be collected. I share the simple way that you can do this and why it is so important not to neglect this step if you want to have longterm success marketing your business online. At the end of the episode, we go over a quick 3 thing checklist that you must have before you start posting more micro content. 1. a functional landing page ( single website page ) that describes who you are, what you do 2. a functioning email opt-in so that if people are curious and want to hear from you they can input their email and you can speak to them again directly via email marketing 3. a website domain / URL that is your "virtual real estate" where you can start to build your S.E.O. Instead of spending all of your time online looking for instant gratification from social media posts make sure that you have that "next step" in place for people who wish to go deeper. Understand that if you want to be able to reach your audience again in the future you will have to have some system outside of social media where you can reach them because the algorithm does not show everything that you post on social to everyone who follows you.     E19: Laying Down Your Virtual Real Estate With SEO Keyword Optimized Content

    Do you produce content every day for social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram? In this video today we talk about why constant micro-content production can be time-consuming and a risky strategy if you are trying to market your business online. Micro-content is the content that you create for your social media platforms to get instant gratification - for instance, you post a link to your new freebie or landing page and get twenty subscribers. Or you create a Facebook live video talking about an upcoming offer and you get a few messages afterward as a response. Many people get caught in the content treadmill and end up focus on posting primarily micro-content without thinking longterm about how to repurpose this content and put it to work later ( evergreen ) the consequence of this is that you have A LOT of content but have to keep producing more and more - because you haven't built the foundation, and are not ranking on keywords, or showing up for people who are looking for your business. The solution: if you find yourself stuck where you are constantly creating micro-content without any end in sight you NEED to start changing your mindset to think about "legacy" and longterm visibility. Unfortunately, Facebook ( and other social media platforms ) don't do much for you as far as visibility and evergreen value from your content. Having a blog, Youtube channel or Podcast are better for establishing a longterm "evergreen" presence for your business because they are more permanent and allow you to establish stronger S.E.O ( search engine optimization ) - if you are strategic about taking your micro-content off of Facebook ( and Instagram ) and the purposing it so that it can be used for your S.E.O in the future you will be much better off. This video is just a broad introduction to what SEO is and how you can use SEO to work in your favor. I hope this opens your mind to what is possible in the world of content marketing and it encourages you to change some of your content production habits to create "legacy" content, not just instant gratifying daily social media posts.
