When Hobbies Collide! The World of Trading Card Games and Anime!! - BakaBites EP 150

Trading cards games.. What was once controlled by nerds and sweaty men, the universe of TCGs has expanded immensely over the last 5 years and evolved into something no one could have possibly predicted. Where once Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokémon dominated alone, the TCG market has exploded with a plethora of new options, many of them using anime for the base of their game! Some of these new TCGs were created from existing anime IP, like One Piece and Dragon Ball Z. Others simply use anime to develop new cards for their game, like Weiss Schwarz and Universus. And some simply try to add flair to their cards and attract a new audience to their game, like Magic the Gathering. No matter how you look at it, anime has become a major influence on TCGs today to the point where anime fans and trading card collectors are coming together to form one beautiful, smelly community of nerds. Truly a sight to be seen. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twitter: Bakacopodcast Twitch: Frankfurtter TikTok: @bakacopodcast Instagram: @bakacopodcast YouTube: @bakacopodcast --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #anime #animepodcast #podcast #manga #animenews #animereviews #animerecommendations #mangacollection Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/bakacompany-podcast. You grab a snack, take a seat, and realize that your football game has now been taken over by the Strawhat crew. That's right, Luffy and the gang have commandeered your sporting event. Is this a hoax? A goof? A ruse? Not at all! This is now the future of sports around the World! As avid sports fans, Frankfurtter and MagicallyAverage can't stop gushing over the anime references being displayed in sports all around the world. Crunchyroll to Make Anime Japanese Again! Wait, What...??? - BakaBites EP 147

Anime. Ah, anime. How far the medium has come from the early days of Astro Boy and Speed Racer to the powerhouses of the present like One Piece and Attack on Titan. The World of anime has even extended beyond the borders of Japan to shows like Blue Eye Samurai and - what? Wait, that's not anime? Ok, well, we still have plenty of others like Arcane and Bee & Puppy Cat, so... Those aren't anime either? Oh, so what, anime has to be Japanese? Ok, sure, I'll believe that when, I don't know, the Crunchyroll CEO says that anime has to be Japanese. Hm? Oh he did? Well...alright then. Anyway, this week, MagicallyAverage and Frankfurtter to discuss the very odd and confusing statements made by Crunchyroll's CEO and what impact they could have on the anime industry. The duo also discuss their favorite non-anime anime shows and what it truly means to be considered an anime today! Art: An Episode About Uji, the Military, and Tommy Lee Jones - BakaBites EP 144

Art has played an important part in our World for thousands of years. From storytelling to sculpting and everything in-between, art is a staple of modern society. This is especially true for the Boss Coffee commercials starring Tommy Lee Jones (and if you know, you know). This week, MagicallyAverage and Frankfurtter talk about the importance of investing in the arts and how Japan, unsurprisingly, is setting an example for how this can be accomplished. Manga competitions highlighting the talents of elementary school students, a short animated film highlighting the beauty of a spectacularly underappreciated city, and, of course, commercials highlighting the amazing talents of one Tommy Lee Jones. These, amongst many, MANY others, are prime examples on how Japan is investing in the arts and allowing the industry to thrive! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twitter: Bakacopodcast Twitch: Frankfurtter TikTok: @bakacopodcast Instagram: @bakacopodcast YouTube: @bakacopodcast --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #anime #animepodcast #podcast #manga #animenews #animereviews #animerecommendations #mangacollection Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/bakacompany-podcast. Welp, Time To Disappoint Ourselves With Our Crunchyroll Anime Award Predictions!!! - BakaBites EP 143

Well, it's almost that time of the year again. The time when the secret society at Crunchyroll begin to crunch the numbers on this year's anime and try to pick winners for - Oh, oh you didn't know? The nominees eligible for the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards ends after the Summer 2024 season. So the best anime for the 2025 awards will be anime from Fall 2023 to Summer 2024. Makes perfect sense! What also makes sense is Attack on Titan winning awards for their special episode, Demon Slayer sweeping up categories for their short season, and Jujutsu Kaisen making a surprise appearance to, once again, clean up the remaining awards. (Writing this hurt me on the inside...) Jokes aside, Frankfurtter and MagicallyAverage sit down to discuss their predictions for the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards; which anime will the judges speak highly of versus which ones the baka bois feel deserve the grand prize. Which anime make their lists? And what bold predictions will be made about the upcoming award season? Be sure to share your lists with us as well! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twitter: Bakacopodcast Twitch: Frankfurtter TikTok: @bakacopodcast Instagram: @bakacopodcast YouTube: @bakacopodcast --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #anime #animepodcast #podcast #manga #animenews #animereviews #animerecommendations #mangacollection Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/bakacompany-podcast.
